Ok, from what I can figure from all the “MediaSmart” updates you guys have posted the most current are:

    MediaSmart MVP Software v2.20 B
    MediaSmart DVD Software v2.20 B
    MediaSmart WebCam Software v2.1.1208
MediaSmart Start Menu v2.10 A_update (prior version required for installation?)

MediaSmart TV Software v2.20 B (If TV Turner Equipped)

I haven’t installed any of these on the Dv4t yet and still have QuickPlay, YouCam, and the Cyberlink DVD suite that came with the unit and I put back after a fresh install. Just wondering though:

    - For the StartMenu, do you really need a prior version installed like it says on the HP pages or can you just extract the files from the .exe and use the appropriate Msi ?
    - Does it sytematically matter if your have a “Q” or a “M” on your quicklaunch bar or is it just a new graphic? Will the MediaSmart menu come up when you press the “Q” and how does all this fit in with the little remote. Do the newer remotes also have an “M” instead of the “Q”.

Also, I think someone posted that you needed to install the Start Menu software last for it to function correctly. Has this been confirmed? Anyway…. It’s not terribly important. I’m not even sure if it’s worth the effort to tinker with this or not. But if I did, it’s nice to "check six" and know what to expect. So if anyone's tried out all this junk yet or knows how its all supposed to work if someones unit came pre-installed with it. Feel free.

Last, the CVA files on the software I checked indicates that this stuff supports DV2 through DV7, HDX, TouchSmart TX2, Envey, and CQ 35 through 41 models so perhaps one of you software/driver guru guys could add these to your list if its not too much trouble (danny ;) ) …..or start a new thread since they seem to apply to so many different models. Perhaps this could be a considated place to put all the QuickPlay, YouCam, stuff also. Just a thought …

    Just wondering.... did you:

    - have a "Q" or a "M" on the quicklaunch bar of your TX2500. If "Q", does MediaSmart menu come up when you press the “Q”? In other words, is there a symtematic difference between the old "Q" and the newer units with "M" or is it mearly graphics?

    - really need a prior version of the StartMenu installed like it says on the HP pages or can you do a normal install or just extract the files from the .exe and use the appropriate Msi ?

    - have to install the Start Menu software last for it to function correctly.

    Thanks....

    Q. But I disabled that button and use it to wake out of suspend when in tablet mode. Search for ways to reprogram your Q button to call up any software. However, this program installs a quicklaunch button on your taskbar.

Just run them. No prior version needed.

    I did installed it first.

One thing though, it adds four services. If your adverse to more services you might want to give it a pass.

The other thing is that it has scant options, defaults and customizations. It would be nice if you can default a picture directory when it loads or a music directory. Instead it loads everything up with you having to sort though based on predefined criteria.

One nice thing though, if you install it on a tablet, the picture segment of the program lets you whip your finger across like an iPhone to scroll trough pictures.

Finally, an answer that worked. I installed these updates on my HP dv7t-2000 and it finally fixed the "HP MediaSmart TV Resident Program has stopped working" error.

I don't understand why can't HP just tell you about these updates? All their "HP Total Care Advisor" said was to install the sp42505 update for that error which didn't work after repeated installations!

    Thanks

Hi Every one, I sure hope im in the right place as HP has been no help at all.

My friend has a new laptop DV6 that came with Vista with a free upgrade to Windows 7 she bought at Office Depot. Office depot did the upgrade when she got the Windows 7 disk in the mail from HP.

Well, Office depot installed windows 7 and it works fine, but she discovered her HP Media smart is missing, you can do a search and there is noting to do with HP Media smart on her laptop. She called Office depot and they said there is noting they can do to get it back, She contacted HP and they said there is no option to download it. So how in the heck is she to use this new laptop with web came and stuff but does not have the Media smart.

I found this post on the net trying the help her out. So do yall think this will work for her to get it back on her DV6. She isnt computer literate, so Im trying to help her out.

So I really need to know how to install these on her computer. Do I download all the links above on a thumb drive and run it from there on her laptop.

All help would be ever go helpful on this.

    Thanks,
    Sharon

Hi Sharon and welcome to the NBR forums!

MediaSmart is not actually required for the system or its components to work; it simply adds additional software that may or may not enhance the user's experience. You will find that many (including me) believe that MediaSmart isn't useful enough for much of anything and that it is safe to not have these packages installed in the first place.

If you still want to use the MediaSmart software suite, you can find newer versions in the driver threads we provide here - HP Drivers and Software Forum
