    HP Mini 1030NR

This netbook only supports up to wireless-g. Is it possible to upgrade the wireless card inside to a wireless-n card?

yes you can. the wireless card is located on the top side of the motherboard under the left palm rest. it is a half height card, and only has a main and aux antennat (so you cant get a card with more than 2 antenna hook-ups without having to do alot of work to add in another). To get to the wireless card, remove the battery, then unscrew the 2 screws beneath the battery that hold the keyboard down. then gently pry up the keyboard and detach it from the computer (unlatch the zero insertion force connectors and pull it out). also unlatch the other connectors for the track pad (part of the top bezel). then use a credit card or similar tool and work your way around the bezle to seperate it from the case. bingo you should see the mobo and wireless card. just swap it out and your good to go.

    good luck!

Wow, thanks! That was very informative and helpful.

Actually, what exactly are USB wireless adapters and what do they do? Is it possible to just purchase a wireless-n USB adapter to connect to wireless-n networks?

    Note: I have a wireless-n router

they are in short, a similar wireless card, just with a usb connector instead of mini pcie so that you can connect externally. Yes you can get one, however the range and transfer rates may be somewhat shorter/slower, and you use a usb port, leaving only 1 open. the only other con is that they stick out, other than that it will work for what you want to do.

Sorry about my other elaborate explanation, im just working on modding mine and have opened it up a couple of times.
