I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine). Thanks.

Didn't notice a big difference in size. The feel of the HP keyboard is much better than the One, IMHO.
I own the One and have traded with a HP Mini owner for a day.
Is is worth the price difference? For me, almost.

good to hear, but I want to hear why you say "almost". I'm debating whether to return mine for a mini. thanks.

i finally had a chance to stop by best buy today and sure enough, my AA1 was sitting right next to the Mini 1000 (similar to 2140 in terms of screen and keyboard).

I must say, it was much nicer typing on the mini, and the screen was noticeably brighter. I think i'll return my AA1 and look into buying the 2140.

    I hate the little keyboards.

The Acer has one thing going for it that I do not think the HP has, and that a large following of folks modding the units.

I have seen some amazing (and mostly inexpensive) mods done to the Aspire One (I love the one with the dual touchcreens).

I have modded the heck out of my letter acer (touchscreen, huge hard drive, internal bluetooth, GPS, Mobile broadband, Intel Wireless AGN, memory and the like), and ever since I did the touchscreen upgrade, I hardly use the keyboard at all.

FWIW, I am running Vista Ultimate + VMWare workstation 6.5, with a couple of Windows XP VM's, and a Ubuntu VM I slicked out just for the little guy (we named it "Little Bit").

Why not consider a fold out bluetooth wireless keyboard?

    Just an idea...

A mini keyboard also known as an ergonomic keyboard, has many benefits. There are many definitions of ergonomics, keep in mind that they vary based on the working conditions. The most basic definition is the science of people-machine relationships. Make sure that you become aware with each and every aspect of ergonomics so that you can avoid problems that come from working with the wrong posture.

Keyboard wise both HP and Acer are good. HP has a slight edge because of somewhat bigger keys of course. Both keyboard are nice to type on and perform well for their sizes.

In terms of flex both brands are good. Samsung NC10 use exact the same keyboard as Acer and it feels very rigid and of good quality.

One of the most important aspects I've discovered of a mini keyboard is that the right shift key should be a large wide one. That makes a much difference for typing comfort.

I've tried Asus and their keyboards are bad in my opinion. Too much keyboard flex and the right shift key is too small hidden among the arrow keys. Not very nice to type on.
