Can someone who had one of these possibly with a dv1000 or zd8000 tell me if the remote that fits in the PC card slot works with the IR port or is a RF unit? I am interested in one of these with my zv6000. I do have an IR port on the front so that may be a possibility. I did have an ad for the Itervideo remote packed in the box, but I like the small size of the HP Mobile remote. Thanks.

If yours specs include "Consumer IR port" then it might work. Hard to tell just from info on HPshopping.com. For example, the little remote doesn't appear on the configurator for the dv4000, but it will work with it. My guess is that it works, but your best bet is to call HP and ask to be sure.

I did notice in the remote documentation on HP that it is an IR type remote. It also said in there you would need either the Media Center edition from Microsoft, or the Intervideo Home Theater. The latter did ship with my zv6000, so it looks like things should be set. I will probably go ahead and order one in the next couple of days. Looks like the only thing that will not work is the quick play like the dv1000 uses to play dvd's etc without booting windows.

So, essentially, everyone should receive the necessary software required to utilize the Hp remote with their IR port...All that needs to be added is the $20 remote?

No, you don't need Windows MCE.

You can always call HPShopping.com, with all questions, but dont make it too hard of a question, or they will just get confused and try to sell you something you dont want!

The small remote that fits in the side of the zd8000 can be used without MCE or TV tuner but it's a little limited with what you can do.
The larger Hp remote only works with MCE and you have to have your Tv Tuner or other infra red pickup plugged in for it to work, which is a pity coz it's well handy.
