Hi, recently bought a nc6400, fairely impressed by the quality![]()
Mine is a 64mb base model with fingerprint but without bluetooth. It was running a demo copy of Windows Vista and its recovery partition has been deleted. I just cleaned installed windows xp on it.
First question:
Can you set to login using fingerprint at startup, not just login into Windows? I know I can do this single fingerprint login with a thinkpadd, however I tried to play with the settings on the nc6400 and couldn't find a way to realize that.
Second question:
How easy is it to upgrade bluetooth on the NC6400? I opened the bluetooth-containing compartment but couldn't see a connecting cable or socket anything? I looked up the hardware manual and realized that the cable comes with the bluetooth module so it is not there for models without bluetooth. I guess I'll have to dissemble the palmrest to install the cable, right/ but I can't find anywhere where the bluetooth cable goes. Do you guys happen to have any cheap source for the module btw?
Final question:
What's the easiest way to update softwares? I really like the system update software on the thinkpads which automatically picks up the programs and updates for the specific model, does HP have a similiar program?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot for the video, Zenica. Didn't know HP also has service videos out there.
Anyway, this is what I found out to my questions:
1) It turns out that fingerprints can't be used as credentials to login at startup. Have to say that IBM does a much better job at this with integrated login support.
2) The video shows very clearly where the cable goes
3) There is a program called HP Update, however it doesn't work the way I expected, basically it only updated itself. I clean installed Xp and then HP update and the program couldn't find anything including drivers and programs for the NC6400. Another thumb-up for IBM here!
