I have a problem with my keyboard, sometimes a key locks without physically locking and it inputs only ooooooooooooooooo etc.
Often I can't type anything at all, and it's only sometimes fixed by pressing a lot of keys at random, this usually happens after resuming windows from standby with the lid closed.
So, the keyboard or its connector seems to be failing, is there something I could do to fix it?

Pop off the keyboard and make sure that the little ribbon connector isn't damaged, and that it is all the way in the connector.
-
Unplugged the keyboard, checked the connection, saw a little cutlike stripe in the cable, but it was not damaged.
Reconnected keyboard, worked fine, screwed in screws, started acting funny again, tried loosening them, didn't work. Unscrewed completely and took out the keyboard again, now it works perfectly with the screws out. -
Any permanent resolution to this problem? i have the exact same problem, and HP's support has been utterly useless.
They sent me a new keyboard that was missing arrow keys... and now i've been waiting 3 weeks for another replacement. -
I placed a thick piece of paper underneath the keyboard and its connectors, now it works flawlessly

i'd like HP to take care of this as warranty work, but i have a feeling that they're going to do absolutely nothing and take a long time doing it!
thanks for the advice. -
Hi, this is a common fault on 6400's! Usually the board. Would advise to contact HP if in warranty and be firm with them! Would not advise to use paper under KB as could end up invalidating warranty if anything got burnt!!!
-
Well, paper doesn't burn that easily, takes 233 dagrees celcius
So, it seems like the error is due to some part of the chassie interacting with the keyboard connector ribbon cable, and putting something inbetween prevents this.
I've had no issues with it since the paperfix. -
grkn, can you please post a picture where you put a piece of paper under your keyboard? I'm trying to figure out where best to put it to fix the KB issue.
-
Sorry, but its just a 4 folded piece, under the keyboard connector.
-
yes, putting a piece of paper between the cable and the chasis seems like an effective solution, my keyboard now works just fine as before.
-
Problem solved then, if you are still under warranty HP can probably send you a new keyboard, but this seems to be a design weakness of the nc6400.
