I switched as well but haven't got it as yet, I will kick there a$$ on monday now.

thats the one i ordered cost no extra, i changed the order tuesday evening and got it on thursday

 

ah i getcha, im guessing theyv ran out of stock then, i probably wont get mine until weds or thurs, maybe friday because i live in northern ireland. but if they are getting them back in stock on the 4th of sept, we shall be fine and dandy XD. so?? how is it??

I also did the same on last thursday from Germany. Till now they haven't took any money and there is no reply to my mail. I am waiting. May be I have to call them. What about U?

 

I have cancelled the order as they now say this would be available on the 7th now, I cant waste time with these guys and customer service really sucks, The lady said "I wont swear my life on it" when I asked if she was sure that this would be delivered on 7th.

 

delievered to you on the 7th? i think you shouldv hung in there, the guy i got threw to was very helpful he said that hewlett packard made the delay because they are building them and they told laptopsdirect this morning that they will recieve the laptops this week and the guy said without a doubt id get the laptop before the 16th and that northern ireland is pretty much the same as UK dor delievery so id probably get it buy friday or monday depending on HP. but he says albeing well everything should be grand. good enough for me.

 

I am just amazed !! The sales guys says its available and the customer service says now thats its not available for 2 weeks!!

i rang them and it was through order payment blah blah and the guy said HP told them this morning they will recieve the batch this week and then he said your laptop with be shipped straight away, i asked if i would get it before the 16th of sept becaudse i have to move to you and he sounded pretty deffinate that i would and said yes deffinately no problem. so im pretty happy for now lol.

Buddy, I had originally ordered it on the 21st, so It has been a long wait for me,When the stock comes back I might order agn But I cant be bothered with them till then, basically I dont trust what they said, bcoz I have heard it all before.

i know what you mean, im a bit worried myself. what do you think i should do? i mean iv no idea what other laptop to get and where from? i mean if they take my money, they havnt yet and the guy said it wont be taken until they get the shipment in and my lappy is dispatched, but when they do how long does it take to get back after you cancell the order?

 

They didn't do that with my order, my order was not dispatched but payement was taken out, anyhow I have cancelled now.(they say it should be back in day but i dont know to be sure)
since money frm ur account hasn't been taken out, you r in better position.
Its upto you, but if ur order is time critical then I would recommend cancelling as they cant be trusted bcoz the lady first said 7th and then when i called agn someone else said 2 weeks.

 

can you find out when your money has been taken out? like tomorrow or something chekc and then post up online just so i know. i think they cant be trusted might be a bit harsh, i mean if hp **** them around its not really their fault, the people i spoke to were great help but i understand why you are pissed off, lets just hope im not in the same possition. ok so if i was to get another laptop id prefer to get one from a store, all there is near me is PCworld...so...what laptop do you suggest? even though im willing to wait for lappydirect id like a backup plan.

good man, im going to give it until thursday or friday and ring them, then if i dont get a decent answer ill probably cancell, but its just too good an offer to lose. ill update to when it comes to the end of the week. god, nothings every easy.

well my order has been updated to waiting for stock to arrive so order can be fulfilled, which is good. now just have to wait for HP to shift arse.

 

The color matches the dark grey base color of the NC8430 (the top, the bezel around the keyboard, etc. The top surface of the docking station is 9"w x 2-3"d. So not a good surface to put a screen on top, better to put it just behind or get the CRT stand.

I think money back might depend on the Bank as well, mine is HSBC, so if ur with HSBC next day is kinda guarantee.

Anyway, F3JA from asuslaptop.co.uk. Upgrade to A6JA, with same X1600, but with express card slot. However you don't get HP business class build! I've not ordered yet though! Still hoping this deal comes through for me!

Well you can add me to the list, after some payment problems with the Zepto (it was actually the bank's fault) and some reconsideration I've decided to go with the HP as well more for peace of mind (the 3 year warranty and business class build swayed it for me) than anything else. I just hope delivery doesn't take very long as I start Uni a week on Friday, it looks like there's going to be quite a few students with these HP laptops.

 

yeah exact same position, im headng over a week from friday too. i dont mind waiting even if iv already moved, i can use library pcs or my fiances laptop for a week or so but i think we should be fine. as soon as HP deliever the lappys to laptopsdirect theyre sending them instantly to us, and as a plus that guy told me id have it before 16th no problem. so fingers crossed as usual XD.

 

You could spend the extra waiting time shopping for accessories

 

haha thats a good idea, i need to sort out broadband right enough. but im gna spend the time waiting geting drunk in a tent when me and my fiance go camping this weekend XD.

 

I just phoned up and they said stock is coming on Friday and they were very pleasent and helpful on the phone. They said to ring back up on Friday if I want to get a better idea of when I can expect delivery, looking good.

Could someone tell me what would be the best way to partition the hard drive to my liking after I've installed my new laptop into use? Partition magic...? I personally don't like that windows partition gets all the space it want's and the recovery partition gets the 10G or something. If I just re-partition the C: into 2 or three smaller parts, will I be able to restore the made recovery installation (wich I made in the startup when installing the laptop) into the new smaller partition?

I have used partion magic, its really easy other wise you could use windows/dos fdisk which is okay with brand new disk (As you dont risk losing data).

thats true, its not really up to laptopsdirect, i mean this bundle is on such high demand hp have had to make more, if hp delays them theres not much laptopsdirect can do apart from offer an apology for the delay and so on. we'll find out soon enough, but the people on the fones seem positive which is good enough for me.

i've taken a look at this model from hp. but now, merom is coming and new graphic cards (ATI X1700). now I want to know if there will come a updatet nc8430 (with 2 GHz merom and X1700 or so) in a few days or weeks (or ever)? because 2300 CHF is much money for me (i'm a student) and I want to buy something that is actuall and holds out for 2-3 years). thx in advance for answers. (and sorry for my bad englisch.... )

The Asus V1J has been listed with the GF7700 for end of September

My point is no one knows when these new cards will start showing up frequently. No idea about a 8430 refresh

If you can wait, wait. If not, just buy it now! The X1600 can handle modern games fine. There's always something new after a couple of month. Anyway, with DX10 around the corner I reckon we're getting to an impasse in laptop gaming. I say that as if the rumours are correct I do not see how DX10 cards will show up in laptops with the monster cooling and power consumption needs

I'm considering one of these suckers but want to stuff in a Merom asap. Looks like version F.0C BIOS might support it. Anyone try this yet?

 

No one has tried it with the 8430 that I know of yet, but it should work, what with the bios update. However you would void the warranty, so may as well wait to see whether HP refresh the line. I presume they will, just a question of time

 

I'm holding off on this until I see a bunch of you doing this. But the reality is that I don't see a need for this unless the performance increase is beyond marginal.

 

Only reason for me is I do .net development for a living and would like to do some 64-bit compiling from time to time. My old notebook was an Athlon 64 3000+ Mobile (the venerable M6805) so I got used to having 64-bit x86 around.
