Hello folks,
I purchased an HP NX7400 (I believe the sub model is EN352UT) in late January.
It has an Intel® Core2 Duo Processor T5500, 2 x 512 MB, 80 GB HDD and a 15.4" screen (1280 x 800 WXGA Bright View). Those are the basic specs then.
I used it fine for about 2 months straight with no issues. However at the end of March, I was away on a trip and used it on a flight for a few hours. During which time it ran okay too except for a keyboard feeling a tad too warm. At the end of the flight I shut it down and packed it away in my case.
The next morning while at home I fired up the system and noticed a small light grey/almost white patch developed on the screen, not on the surface but rather below it. Almost looked like stuck pixels. Because of its light color, this patch only shows up against dark backrounds. I've tried wiping the screen to make sure its not on the surface, but it definitely isnt. The intensity of the patch depends on the angle at which you view the screen, as the screen has a pretty limited viewing angle.
I've attached a couple of pictures including a close up. Hopefully someone can shed some light on what it could be, cause I'm absolutely stumped.

I'm really starting to think something is wrong here. I have an nc8430, and that exact little blurb has happened to me. I'm not kidding, the damage looks too similar. Call HP and get them to replace the screen.
It appears to happen only when packed in a case with a lot of stuff pushing on the notebook. That's how mine got damaged...they technically call it a 'partial bright pixel defect.' Tell them about 30 or 40 pixels in the same area have that problem, and they'll replace the screen I'm sure. They usually replace the screen if it has only 6 stuck/dead pixels, which is a lot less than what you have. -
it could have something to do with your keyboard rubbing up against your screen. it is a fairly common occurrence. in the future, you might want to consider investing in some sort of keyboard cover...

So you think it could be some physical damage that has caused it rather than a defect built into the screen? I mean it was working fine on the flight right upto the last second when I had to turn it off during landing. Although it is conceivable it couldve been jolted a bit at the airport while handling the baggage. Even though I made extra-sure to handle the bag with the notebook extra sensitively...I guess thats the only situation where I can think of it suffering a bump.
Anyway I did contact an HP representative and they're sending in a package next week with instructions on how to mail the notebook back to them. Hopefully they notice the patch though - Is there anyway I can let them know specifically that it might require a screen change? What did you do at the part when you had to deal with HP about it? -

It's caused by the two rubber stoppers below your keyboard which is supposed to prevent the keyboard from scratching the screen.
It's a design defect, but if your notebook has been assembled well, it shouldn't have been a problem.
