Hi there..
For those who have been reading problems concerning screen quality with this model, you will get the sense that they really are crappy... Well here is another one to join with the others.
Since a few days I have been feeling that my screen is getting dimmer. Now I am quite certain of it. the lower left part of my screen (about 1/4th the size of it and some of the upper left side) the spot where the windows "start" is, is getting darker day by day. I have tested it with a white background and it really looses brightness in those areas...That's really annoying since I have it for less than 5 months and it is already giving me troubles...
Since I am almost sure that it is not a misconfiguration problem, or a software setting, I am writing here to know three things:
1 - Has this problem happened to anyone else? If so, what have you done?
2 - What is the HP service support like? How long do they take to repair a notebook?
3 - Should I format my hard drive before before sending it?![]()
Thanks for any help!
Cheers

Hey Otto,
Sorry to hear you're having this problem with your notebook. I too have an nx8220 and also came up with LCD problems, but that was fixed buy getting my nx8220 replaced with a new one (within the 30 day period). The issue of getting dimmer, could it be because you have the Ambient Light Sensor on? When on, this will cause your LCD to go dimmer the darker the room gets and brighter the brighter the room gets. You can turn this feature on/off with Fn+F11.
Initially, HP did have issues with the LCD (using a bad brand) and it caused the LCD to have a muddy/dirty look to pure white backgrounds. According to HP, these were replaced with better Samsung LCD's, so you may want to see if they can replace it with one of these. Oh, the one I have is the WSXGA+ LCD, so I don't know about the WXGA models.
I have not sent my notebook in for repair yet (knock on wood), so I can't comment on how fast their service is. In regards to the HDD, it's up to you if you want to format, but make sure you backup your data before sending. I read a case where a user did not backup their non-replacable data and after sending the unit in for repair, the drive was wiped. So, make sure you backup before sending. You may want to remove all your private stuff before sending just to be on the safe side.
