I have an HP dv9308nr and bought the HP Notebook Quickdock so I could quickly connect and disconnect all my peripherals through 1 cable. The Quickdock has 6 USB ports, and they are all used up with all of the components I have connected.

The problem I'm having is that the dock doesn't seem to have enough power to run all of the USB ports, even though I'm running my Power adapter through the dock and not the laptop. Are these USB ports on the dock powered or is there some sort of bigger power supply I need to buy to power both the laptop and the USB ports on the docking station?

Theres a limit how much the USB ports can power. What devices have you got plugged in?

The Permanent devices I've got plugged in are USB Speakers, USB optical mouse, an externally-powered WD HDD and Iomega HDD, Printer, and TV Tuner. Devices that I connect only when I need them are my Zune and my WD Passport.

Yes the ports are powered but even so there is a system limit to the power drawn, if you go to Device manager and open your USB controllers tab and then look at the properties for the USB Root Hubs you have under power you will see that they are self powered and it will show that 500mA per port is all that is allowed.

You will also see the devices connected to that port and what power is being used.

You'll then be able to move your high drain hardware to other ports and balance out your system

From personal experience WD 2.5" drives need to have 2 usb connectors to power it. 1 usb port is not enough to power it, unless you have a 1000mA port like on the Targus usb hub.

all my USB is giving out only 20mA. Yea.. no more than that.. Is that bad? And if it is so, how do I increase the amps?
