I am looking to buy a DC->AC inverter for use in a vehicle, so was just wondering if anybody knows what the power requirements are for an HP laptop?
HP sells a 90 watt vehicle inverter on their site for 80 bucks (quite a ripoff if you ask me), but the standard AC adapter that comes with the pavilion series notebooks is only rated at 65 watts, right?
Would it be ok to go with this 80-watt continuous (100w peak) inverter, or should I pay a little more and go for this one (150w) ?

No need for 150w, the 80w looks nice.

You might want to look and see if anyone has a direct DC-DC converter that works for the HP. With an inverter, you are converting the electricity from DC->AC, then the hp power brick is going AC->DC, so the chain is DC->AC->DC. Something like iGo might just let you go DC->DC. It would be much more efficient.
The inverter can be useful for plugging in other things too, but you have options. -
HP Notebook wattage requirements?
