I am looking to buy a DC->AC inverter for use in a vehicle, so was just wondering if anybody knows what the power requirements are for an HP laptop?

HP sells a 90 watt vehicle inverter on their site for 80 bucks (quite a ripoff if you ask me :p), but the standard AC adapter that comes with the pavilion series notebooks is only rated at 65 watts, right?

Would it be ok to go with this 80-watt continuous (100w peak) inverter, or should I pay a little more and go for this one (150w) ?

No need for 150w, the 80w looks nice.

You might want to look and see if anyone has a direct DC-DC converter that works for the HP. With an inverter, you are converting the electricity from DC->AC, then the hp power brick is going AC->DC, so the chain is DC->AC->DC. Something like iGo might just let you go DC->DC. It would be much more efficient.

The inverter can be useful for plugging in other things too, but you have options.

Yep that's why I was looking at inverters; it's nice to be able to use it for charging other stuff (cell phone, mp3 player, etc.) on the road.
