I know this was posted at least once before, but it looks like HP has switched SSD mfrs from Samsung to Micron, at least for the 256GB SSD. HP used to use an older model Samsung SSD (not the new 470) that, but today's standards, offered only average performance at best by most accounts. My new Envy 14 received today came with a Micron 256GB SSD that is apparently the OEM version of, and is identical to, the current Crucial RealSSD C300 except that the OEM version is limited to SATA II 3GB/s, whereas the Crucial version is SATA III 6GB/s (a moot point given that the Envy itself is only SATA II capable as built).

From what I've read the C300, even running at 3GB/s, should be a significant performance upgrade over the previous Samsung SSD, making the HP SSD option perhaps not quite as horribly overpriced an option as it was previously (still overpriced, of course, just not as much so).

I'm excited to hear this. I'm getting my Envy with SSD on Wednesday! I'll post the spec's of my SSD to make sure I have the micron as well for anyone interested.

    Is it capable of TRIM?

If it is an OEM version of the C300, then yes, it supports TRIM.

Yes - that was one of the first things I checked when I received it.

How do you find out which hard drive you have without opening the casing?

Go to Device Manager and then disk drive - the disk drive should be named either MMDOE56G5MXP (or something very close to that) or MTFDBAK256MAG. If it it doesn't say either in the drive name then double click on it to go to properties, go to the details tab and then select Device ID. The first one (MMD. . .) is Samsung, the second one (MTFD . . .) is Micron/Crucial.
