    NBR:

HP has announced, along with Dell and others, that they are releasing BIOS updates to address the nVidia GPU issues that have been worrying notebook users for the last few weeks.

However, HP took the opportunity to announce they will also be offering free repairs for a few series of notebooks with a few different problems that may or may not been related to the GPU issues.

In the dv2000 and V3000 series notebooks, HP wants users to look out for the following:
    • The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
    • There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
In the dv6000, dv9000 and V6000 series notebooks there are a whole bunch more things to look out for:
    • The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
    • There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
    • The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
    • The notebook does not start.
    • The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected.
    • The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
    • The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.

First off, if your notebook is experiencing issues I'd recommend you update your BIOS to the latest available at HP.com. If you are unable to do so, or your problems persist after the BIOS update, do not hesitate to contact HP immediately.

As a general rule of thumb, the more troubleshooting you do before hand the better...as technicians will actually get the impression you know what you are talking about and are more willing to work with you on issues.

So if you are having issues, HP might be able to fix it.

Not all HP support staff is fully aware of this issue. To escalate the case, customers should point the tech support representative to the following link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...7&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en# and state any of the symptoms seen. An immediate motherboard replacement should then take place.

This has been happening since late last year, so HP actually has enough motherboard in stock as repairs related to this issue are being performed quite quickly.
