Don't know if this was posted earlier, but HP is offering an extended warranty (rather than a recall) on certain models due to a hardware issue. The extended warranty applies to all North American customers with certain models.

    Models Eligible for Free Repair:

    -Pavilion DV6000 (model is dv60xx to dv63xx, serial is xxx625xxxx to xxx726xxxx)
    -Pavilion DV9000 (dv90xx to dv93xx, serial is xxx630xxxx to xxx728xxxx)
    -Presario V6000 (V60xx to V63xx, serial is xxx625xxxx to xxx726xxxx)

My first-generation DV6000Z and my old first-generation DV6305US both qualify (they were both AMD based). Second-generation models (DV6500 for example) are NOT covered here.

The warranty is 12 months extended from the time your existing warranty expired. Below is a link to the page:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us

Summary of issues covered on this extended warranty:

-The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
-The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
    -The notebook does not start.
-The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected.
-The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
-There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
-The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.

Basically, this covers a majority of worst-case scenario notebook issues. So if your notebook is out of warranty for no more than 12 months and has these issues, you should contact HP and get it fixed for free while you can.

    Prerequisites to a free repair:

-You must install the latest BIOS if your computer runs to see if it will fix the problem you are having.
-You must call HP at 1-866-671-7362 from 6:00am to 11:00pm MST and request a repair under this "service enhancement program"

    Warranty after repair:

-Once you send in your notebook, you receive a free 90-day warranty on the repairs performed only. I'm assuming once a repair is made, the extended warranty is replaced with this 90-day warranty.

Unfortunately, I have been hit by this problem.

It's interesting, though, because it came about after I was sent back my notebook from another repair. I originally sent it in for a cosmetic issue which they covered (the left hinge on the LCD came loose and the entire case/LCD bezel and cover started to crack and disintegrate).

But it is only today as soon as I got it back, that I started to experience the problems of the computer not turning on sometimes, the LCD not functioning, etc.

It seems to have fixed itself now, but I tink at some point, I will make a backup and take HP up on the free offer to fix it.

The guy on the phone at HP who told me about the problem said that it was an issue with the AMD chip. He wasn't really able to elaborate more than that, other than it had something to do with the AMD chip and system board, and that it would be replaced for free.

I know this thread has been talked about before, but in none of the previous threads, was I able to find an exact response as to what is happening here. Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks!

PS: Even though I sent this unit into HP for a purely COSMETIC repair, they wiped my HD. Luckily I had a solid backup which worked... BEWARE!

I have an intel dv9500t and have the " - There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor."

I am sending it in tomorrow (hopefully)... It looks like they didn't fix the problem on newer notebooks.

mark2000 - when you sent it in did you send the power adapter?

    No problem.

I hope the word gets out because there are a LOT of these notebooks out there, and many people have given up on them because they are out of warranty. This extended warranty basically covers all problems that typically turn a notebook into a paper-weight. It sounds like they are covering all motherboard related issues on these models (which is great for the consumer, since an out of warranty replacement of the motherboard can cost $250+).

Nope, when you send in a notebook, you leave the power cord and battery at home.

I actually dropped mine off in person at the OEM repair centre, Teleplan, in Concord / Woodbridge, Ontario, a Toronto suburb. It was fixed the next day, and I received it Thursday. So, it took two full days to get it done. I got it back on the third day, during the day.

And note, this was for another problem I had with the LCD mount. I still have not sent it in for the motherboard problem. Since the warranty has been extended on that problem, I'm going to keep the laptop till the last possible minute to get that done. Maybe they will just send me a new one if I wait the full two years :p

Wow...HP must have realized they were going to get sued if they didn't do anything :p

Actually, it was nice of them.

I was thinking the same thing. Would have cost them more to fight a lawsuit

I guess some of the problems must have been worked out, or I'm just having a good luck streak with my dv9548us. I realize that it falls after the model numbers in this post, but I have still read about people having problems with every model in the 9000 series. I, to date have had nothing but praise for this laptop because of the lack of problems I have encountered "so far" (crossing fingers in sad attempt not to jinx his self) but I do wonder how long this streak can last. I guess my only complaint would be the fact that after I flashed the bios yesterday that the volume control icon in the taskbar has disappeared and is not able to be selected from the task manager menu (grayed out) but I've not had time to research for a possible fix to this yet but I will this evening and if I find a solution and it's not posted in a thread than I will post it so others will know. :)

I just want to thank the OP for posting this. My friend gave me his HP DV9000 Turion TL-54 with Geforce 6150 that wouldn't boot up at all. Pretty much the motherboard was busted as i ripped it apart trying to find any parts i could replace. I found this thread looking for a motherboard, but found it qualified for the program. After about 2 hours on the phone i got them to send me a repair package and they replaced the motherboard in a week paying for next day air both ways.
