    HP Omen 15 - dc0051nr (new to market) i7 8750h + gtx 1060 thin bezel!

IMG_0113 (2).JPG IMG_0114 (2).JPG IMG_0115 (2).JPG IMG_0116 (2).JPG IMG_0117 (2).JPG This is the first one I have seen yet from HP! This beauty is built like a tank with a metal deck and dual hinge solution. Thin bezel design too!

    i7 8750h
    GTX 1060 6gb NOT MaxQ
Chinese FHD panel Looks pretty good actually! Will run it through the Spyder5PRO
    1 x 16gb 2666 memory
    256 nvme samsung
    1tb platter drive
    9560 nic
    70wh battery

No optimus or G-sync. Can someone explain this? I love this as I can now use fast-sync!

All of this for $999 lol http://www.microcenter.com/product/507831/OMEN_15-dc0051nr_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Black

UPDATE 7/10/2018 Panel replacement requires a special screen that has slightly slimmer mounting hardware. User beware. Bezel has clips and sticky tape. I cannot recommend replacement for the average Joe.

Looks like a nice config for the price. According to the service manual it will be available CTO with a GTX 1070 MaxQ and 144hz FHD panel at some point.

Of course I bought it! My channel so far has been self funded for every laptop.

I’ve already torn it down gone over the cooling system and I must say this has been my favorite laptop of all time at its price and I would have no problem paying up to $1300 for it.

Any thoughts on HP’s customer support?

    Not sure on their CS.

My CS brand experience is minimal, with Eluktronics and Dell mostly. Both been pretty good especially the former.

Hi Bob. I see what appears to be a Thunderbolt 3 logo on the USB-C port. Can you confirm it indeed has TB3? Microcenter's site does not list it. Thank you!

I just got mine this morning and I love it!!! I travel 80% and this will allow me to spend some quality time in hotel room after work. I hope it is as reliable as the 6 elitebooks I have had in the family over the past several years.

My only complaint is the same as most of these 8750h based machines...it runs hot. Easily hits 100c in BF1 64p Conquest uncapped(stock).

UV helps a little but only keeping it from TJMAX by a tiny bit.

It’s very quiet however. 44-45db At load using the stick fan setting. Add 10db with max fan setting. Helps temps a little but hardly worth mentioning.

Fujipoly pads and LM application going down this weekend.

Regardless of cpu temps, the system runs hard and boosts very well. Comes with a 200 watt brick too.

All in all, this is one heck of a machine not only for its specs to price ratio, but just how aesthetically pleasing it is as a laptop when in use

The actually review is in the making and will likely be about 15 minutes long.

If budget is key and you want an 8750h that can stay well enough away from thermal throttling without any work (taking the laptop apart) then have a look at the MSI GP63 Leopard.

    Hello Bob,
Can you confirm whether this has Optimus graphics, even HP support doesn’t know and battery is a slight concern. Have you measure display brightness, looks dim in the store?

68% sRGB. I’ll have to get back with you in brightness. If I had to guess I’d say about 280 nit

No Optimus. It’s straight off the dGPU

The 70wh battery has no trouble hitting 4-5 hours surfing the web and watching YouTube.

Not sure and I don’t have the means to check. I doubt it does based on a few tear downs. It didn’t seem wired that way.

Anyway is it really seriously touch 100 celcius or it is actually 100 fahrenheit? Seems it doesn't make sense if it is touch 100 celcius for laptop. Anyway when is your review gonna up? I eager to watch it. Thank you.

I bought mine yesterday at my local microcenter - Don't see too many reviews out there but was at Microcenter looking for an all around laptop and would never, ever, ever consider buying an HP. But honestly, the price, the specs, the bezel, and the IPS that seems to be really nice compared to what else is out there.. for $999. I had to.

One thing I get that's weird is when transitioning to full screen from small screen in youtube, it lags horribly when on battery. Plugged in better but still not as fast as my beast desk top. I want to disable all the HP BS that probably throttles GPU on battery but not sure what that would be, or if it's even that. I wonder if you have the same issue. Also, what is your youtube channel? Thank you. All nvidia drivers are up to date.

Bob Of All Trades is the channel name.

I installed a fresh ISO as HP had way too much garbage on the drive. I deleted all partitions and started fresh.

I usually have to do this.

Nah running really cool though I don't really game other than occaisional pubg, but I'm gonna do a burn test see where it's at and follow bob's tear down and apply whatever cooling tech he's into because he seems to know his **** after viewing his channel. I'm an Exchange admin unfortunately not to privy with hardware lol but i know enough to know that this laptop was a ****ing steal for the money. And the youtube thing disappeared seemed to be an update.

Thanks B0B for the detailed review.

Regarding the absence of Optimus, I was wondering if there is any manual way (like in BIOS) or a workaround to switch to the onboard integrated graphics. This would come very handy in non-gaming days.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My HP Omen with the i7 7700HQ hits 99 C degrees while stressing it out and gaming....

These Omen battle with heat dissipation it seems... I have the i7 7700HQ and Gtx1070 non MaxQ. Repasted with Noctua h1-t1 and still getting high temps. The fans are just not strong enough :)

I am extremely happy I randomly bought this laptop at microcenter. I went there looking for productivity, having built my own beast of a game rig I just needed a laptop to replace an older MSI I had that was extremely poor in terms of build quality, and battery life. Need mainly for work with small game breaks. You can't beat this laptop with a damn stick. I could tell the panel wasn't color accurate, it seems to have a red tint to it perhaps? A little more red than other displays. The keyboard seems to be long yet compact to me... I collect many keyboards and daily rock an IBM model M buckling spring so I know keyboards and this one for a laptop has a good feel to it but it is a tad cramped. I think they could have done without the numpad as it causes you to be always slightly reached left I feel. Other than that the specs are great. Extremely happy with cooling and battery life. It's also dead quiet. Really happy I got this for an even grand.

You’ll be fine then. It’s the right of center keys themselves that hit the upper 40’s under the heavy loads tested.

You won’t see or feel that unless you’re resting your right hand as if to type but for some reason gaming while your hand is there.

    Hopefully that made sense.

It will be a week tomorrow that I've had mine and I really like it alot! I have spent a few hours of gaming on it with no issues. Mine does get almost too hot to the touch above the key board. Is anyone experiencing this? On Performance settings the highest I've seen is 91 cpu and 80 for gpu. Also the Omen key was working and now it isn't. I don't know if it corresponded with the windows 10 latest upgrade, but I'd like to get it's function back.

    Anyone else experience this?
    I've reloaded the Omen app.
P.S. Bob your review was great and I will keep watching.

    Thanks in advance.

An update caused that key to no longer function too.

That area above the KB better be hot! There’s copper connecting the CPU and GPU right there :) that’s the best place for a hot surface should one be necessary.

Awesome machine especially if your have a MC within justifiable driving distance.

Bob thanks for your reply. Makes sense on the heat above the copper!. I wish I was within driving distance but I wasn't. I paid $1100 on ebay from a large seller, they had make an offer... They were asking 1175.00
