Hi All. I'm wanting to upgrade the SSD (m.2 drive) to a bigger capacity and I was wondering who has opened up the laptop and taken off the base cover to upgrade in the past or what is the easiest way is the pry open up the HP Omen 17 and take off the base cover efficiently without causing cosmetic damage of any sort. My particular model of Omen 17 is the w200na with the Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card. Please can you all share your thoughts and advice/tips or anything that would be useful in prying open the HP Omen 17.

Many thanks and I look forward to your thoughts and suggestions.

    Hello GreatD

For each HP model there's a Maintenance Manual that will specifically inform you on how to open your machine.

    https://support.hp.com/lamerica_nsc...000-laptop-pc/10862328/model/12458877/manuals

It's not a difficult task, but not the easiest, so get the appropriate tools as you're dealing with plastic and there might be signs that are visible if you rush.

My model is the 7700HQ and I only applied the tape shown in this review. it's still loud so 'I' would consider replacing the thermal compound. While in there consider replacing the mechanical hard drive for a larger SSD and max your ram. No point in going back in 6 months later when you can do it now. All thoughts to consider.

I have already upgraded my w200na with 16GB Ram from the original 8GB. I don't think it's necessary to go up to 32GB.

I'm aware of that guide but it doesn't specifically show you step by step to pry open the Laptop with prying tools. The gaps aren't wide enough to stick plastic in between so what's tips and suggestions can you give me to
Pry open the base cover, the clips are holding the laptop in place and apparently there is as many as 12 on th inside :( I just want to upgrade the SSD to 512 GB from the original 128 GB for more breathing room.

Any suggestions and hints/tips please sir would be appreciated. This Earlier model w200na is difficult to open to upgrade HDD/SSD m.2 drive. Many thanks

My model is as follows: OMEN by HP 17-w200na Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 7700HQ Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070

I cannot recall exactly where I started but it wasn't at the front! You will have to use a slight bit of force and I cannot be any clearer. Sorry.

I have the exact same model as yours. Did you not battle at all to open it up? What did you upgrade in it so far?? In terms of Thermal paste, what one did you use for the i7 7700HQ for your Omen laptop??
