    HP Omen 17 9750h w/ 2070 slow fan spool up

    Has anyone else noticed an issue with fans spooling extremely slow? The laptop will allow the CPU to get to 100C then seconds later the fans will slowly spool up. Once they are running, laptop maintains in the 80s with an undervolt.

    Looking for any ideas/solutions. I realize you can set fan speed to max in the omen command center but thats just really loud and not needed if they just ran correctly/more responsive.

    Not really a problem on my Omen 17 i9 rtx 2080. It could be that fan speed/responsiveness is linked to the amount of W the CPU is pulling. Mine spin up instantly before even touching above 75c. Then again it uses a good 90w in bursts on those tasks.

    Well I repasted and its not shooting to 100 instantly anymore...only low 90s. Then it cools down into the 80s after about 10 seconds with no throttling. The fans are still very slow to spool but it will have to do I guess.

    I'm getting that very randomly on a ZBook 17 G2, once a month or so. It's like it forgets to spin up, and then suddenly remembers when the CPU is over 90 degrees. No idea what's causing it, as it works fine after a shutdown...

    I use NoteBook Fan Control, set to 50%, to keep temps stable at a good level (it's quiet for me). It mostly switches between 50% and 100%/critical (controller override at 80 degrees).

    Maybe a BIOS update could fix it (but check their notes, HP "fixes" a lot of things that don't even bother me).

    If it is the 2019 model, you could try the first power profile from Omen Command Center. The fan curve is really aggressive, even more so than the default and performance profile. And it only lower the cpu TDP, not limiting gpu in any way so performance is still good.

    Those performance modes aren't just fan ramps, Comfort locks the CPU TDP at 45W limit, Performance is basically unlocked (which the stock cooling can't handle and it happily thermal throttles). They definitely are slow to spin up, and it resets briefly to idle when you switch modes. At least it doesn't obscenely overheat during the delay, I think the mass of the heatsink can absorb it for a time.
    I leave mine on for extended periods of time for Backblaze uploads, so I created another Windows power profile with max CPU at 99%. It disables turbo, so it sits completely silent at 2.3GHz and is still fairly usable.
