HP Omen 17 refresh display

Does anyone with the new version of Omen 17 2020 tell me what display panel it uses? (144hz 1080p panel)

Which panel are you interested in? I use more as workstation than gaming, so I got the 4K. It's the AU Optronics AUO309B, which is very well reviewed. It's the same panel in the MSI Titan. It's G-Sync, 60Hz. The response time is a little low for a gaming screen but doesn't bother me. The 2080 can run it in native resolution and Ultra settings for everything I have. I don't have any ray tracing games to try yet. It will throw off your benchmark scores, though, as the free versions don't let you pick the resolution.
I almost sent it back for backlight bleed in the corner but it's mild and quite variable depending on moving the lid--I'm glad I kept it. It does not come calibrated well and had a noticeable green tinge. There's a million ways of tweaking that but I wound up using the Nvidia control panel for the most practical solution. What's nice is it releases the adjustment when switching to a 3D app. Some games can turn on HDR and some can't, Windows 10 only sees it for video. But the subjective quality of 4K Youtubes and in games is superb color.

 

Hello, thanks for the info, i am interested in the 1080p panel, do you happen to know which one it is in the 2020 version? I know in the 2019 version it is CMN175D (chai mei, 144 hz, uses PWM, sourcE: https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-Om...e-small-limitations.432964.0.html#toc-display).

 

I'm not sure, when I bought on black friday there were about three choices for the 1080 panel. If that one is the same refresh that you're looking at, it's a safe bet.
Just looked, it's the same models still on sale--I don't know that they even have a 2020 refresh coming out. It's still 9th gen Intels so most likely the same panels. I see a 144 and 240 Hz, which are you interested in? Someone here will have it.

Keep in mind they sell two tiers of these, the Omen 15 and Omen 17 by themselves are the higher end configuration, and there's Omen 15 AND Omen 17 listed together. I think they're the same but you can get a lower GTX GPU instead of RTX, and the Omen 15 can be had with an i5. Weird, they overlap a bit.

The only real contribution I have to make is that the backlight bleed mentioned in the review, given that I have a little that can be gotten rid of and it's not mentioned in reviews of the panel by itself or in other laptops, is a result of how HP has it installed. If you get a bad case you can have it fixed, but moving the lid usually gets rid of it and long term I can try adjusting the securing screws inside the top cover.

They discuss it here, looks like it may not be G-Sync.

 

Wouldnt Gsync be better for external displays only?
