Hope this isn't old news: See here.
I'm just glad to know that apparently my CTO dv9700 (p/n KL086AV) with an 8600M GS isn't affected!![]()

Im afraid that page is a year old, lol.
Check the sticky. xD -
Sorry to disappoint but that is old news at least for some of us. That page has been up since Nov 07(maybe even earlier than that). In fact HP was the first to issue the bios updates long before Nvidia or Dell made the announcement, HP at least essentially extended the warranty by a year for what its worth rather than just issuing a bios update.

Notebooks that use the G84/86m core (8400/8600) are in question of the defect.
The ones on that HP page are older HP models which had similar problems but different nvidia cards. -
Here's one article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10000910-64.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20 -

Any chance that the Quadro FX 1600m is defected?

Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 and Compaq Presario V3000 and V6000 series are listed by HP as being potentially affected. Symptoms include no video on the computer LCD screen, no power and no active LEDs, and "the notebook does not start," according to HP's Web page that cites the problem.
"If you are experiencing one or more symptoms listed below, and your computer meets the product criteria listed below, contact HP to determine whether you are eligible for a free repair," the HP Web page states.
from the CNet article. so it could expand to other notebooks. anyone know what card were those using? -

Huh. I got this link from a post today on Engadget, so I'd assumed it was current.
Ah well. My GPU temps never go above 65C, but I don't game (only use compiz and sometimes TwinView) so maybe if I am affected it won't happen 'till I'm ready to replace this thing. -
For a while there, I was worried, but it looks like none of the dv9700t's are affected
-
Oh well, I'll call HP if my GPU is defected.
