    Hi all.

I bought this HP nc8430 from a shop here in my state in February/2008. Now i'm having a few doubts about it as i go discovering more things about it.

First, as i dont own any Bluetooth gadget to test BT, i hadnt ever bothered using it. In the where i bought it, they did announce BT on the notebook, i didnt buy it cuz of bt, but thought it would be a nice plus.
Now when i tried to use BT first to connect to a friend's cellphone, i can't install it. It says i don't have any Bluetooth device connected. Does it really mean my model doesn't have Bluetooth and that the shop was announcing it falsely? Maybe i'm just not installing it right, but after some Googleing i wasn't able to find anyone with the same issue on this model, and as i'm not so newb, i guess something is wrong.

Then i ended up doing some deeper research and found out at my Part Name under my notebook, it is:
    399281R-999

Google showed up alot of models with that prefix, and then 4 letters, on something like:
    399281R-999-BXHD

But i don't know those other letters and it isn't written on my notebook; just the first part (399281R-999). From the configs that google showed, the -BXHD is the one that most matches the config that i have, so i'm guessing that's it.

    HP nc8430 Core2 Duo 2130 399281R-999-BXHD Core 2 Duo T7200 2Ghz 2.048Gb 80Gb 15.4' WSXGA+ 256Mb (ATIX1600) DVDRW WRL BT WXPP Eng 2.8kg

It says BT. Damn. Any thoughts?

Secondly, today i noticed that my pointing device just felt out. If i pressure (doesn't even need to be moderate force) one of it's sides, it just rolls out and i can pick it out.

Coincidently also today in the same research i noticed most 399281R say Refurbished (at least no one says new.) Maybe the "R" means it's refurbished? Damn². It's supposed to be new.

I think you most likely bought a refurbished notebook as the part number refers to a HP certified refurbished notebook. If the seller told you it's new, they are lying. Where are you from?

The trackpoint rubber cap has to be inserted properly or else it may fall out. You can purchase replacement caps from eBay if yours is wearing out.

The Bluetooth is likely there, but you just need to install proper drivers for it.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure it's refurbished. I dont mostly care as long as it works properly. I guess that's not a shock because it was really a good deal they had on that shop. If it works, then i will keep it this way. Else i will surely use that info to talk to the guys at that shop.

I'm from Brazil. By the way it's rare to find something with discrete GPU here with accesible prices, that's why i bought the nc8430 (i.e. no xps1530 and a dell vostro with 8600 is way too overpriced).

Everest tells me i have a "Bluetooth Enumerator" or something like that (sorry it's in portuguese i hope that's the right translation). I still have my doubts. My model's screen resolution is 1280x800, and i guess that's not WSXGA+ as in the BXHD.

Thanks for the answer! Any other thoughts?
