Ps the touch pad is the one that controlls the volume, mute & WiFi connection.

Is it the touchpad not working properly?

Or do you mean the keyboard?
    i.e. F9 (Volume decrease), F10 (Volume increase)
    F10 (Mute), F11 (WiFi)

    Huh?

    Please elaborate.

JonCarter isn't even exactly clear to what
    problem he is experiencing.

His statement of the touchpad that controls the volume, mute, and
WiFi connection is clear to you?

So based on a vague, limited description of a problem, you're blaming
    immediately HP.

    All right, fine. LOL

He has an older dv6 with a "touch strip" above the keyboard for controlling those functions.

@OP: "Touch pad" is generally used to refer to the trackpad, or mouse, on a laptop. ;) As for your problem, try going to HP's site to look for a driver update.
