I bought the new HP Pavilion DV6 6053 on amazon
HP Pavilion DV6-6053 15.6 inch Notebook (Intel Core i7 2630QM Processor, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium) - Aluminium: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

I like the machine very much but when I was examining it closely I noticed that the metal finish that goes around the edge of the machine bulges out just below where the mouse pad is. It is not a major design screw up but when I exam the rest of the metal finish and see that the rest of it is completely flush with the umber finish I thought someone made a botched job.

What are my options to fix something like this?

I guess we arent sure what you're referring to, can you post a picture of the issue? I dont see any problems with the stock photos in the link from amazon that you posted.

Your option might be to return and replace it.

hi Beradon, thanks for the response.. I know its a bit of a tricky one. Its just best described as a bulge in front of the DV6. The metal strip that goes around the machine sticks out.

I didn't upload any picture on Amazon.co.uk yet. I couldn't face sending the machine back and having to wait for a new machine to come out in the post and pay for P&P.

What do you think of the bulge ? Can you see it ? My Ipod touch camera could be better

Its just unlucky I guess, with my dv7 I get some space between the metal rim and the black finish near the speakers on the left and right side. Its barely noticable there, but if I look at it I know it is there :)

That strip is PLASTIC and real flimsy ... easily subject to deformation if people attempt to dismantle their PC. I would assume the same is true during the manufacturing process. Mine is bulged near the 2 USB 3.0 connectors. I think your situation is something you just have to live with. The glossy bezel surrounding my screen already has micro scratches ... and I certainly haven't abused the unit. I think these are just the things you have to learn to accept given the disposability of technology.

Those "micro-scratches", I am guessing, is from that protective black cloth that sits between the screen and keyboard when HP ships new units.

I mistakeningly tried using mine to brush away a little styrofoam from the webcam area when I noticed that I was putting micro-scratches on mine. Just a few before I quickly caught on - though it still extremely pissed me off. I have accidental damage protection on mine. I have half a mind to send it in.

I got pissed off with the metal finish bulging out so I phoned up HP and they sent out a carrier and my laptop went off to repair. They took it on Tuesday and I got it back Friday the next week. 8 working days.

I have to say I'm really happy to get it fixed. The machine feels that much better, nice 1 HP !
