    Ahhh,
I am running Windows 7 hp Pavilion DV6, Corei7 and it heats up like hell and shuts down.

    What should I do.

It's also running extremely slow and it feels like I am using Pentium 1 machine.

    Please help

What is the complete model number? Is it intel or AMD based GPU? How long have you had the laptop and did you check to see the cooling fan and fins where not plugged with dust? And have you checked the thermal paste to see if it was still working? And what are you doing when does it overheat and shutdown?

Model Number : Let me check as I don't know how to give you complete model no.

Intel or AMD: I have no idea ??

I am using it from almost a year, I guess ..

I think the Fan is working and giving hot air out.

thermal Paste: Don't know, what is that ??

When it over heat, it shuts down automatically. After a few minutes, I start it again :)

Good ol' first gen i7. Probably you need to clean the vents and the cooling system. Does it have a numeric section on the keyboard or not? Both series are hard to clean... you need to take apart the whole notebook.

edit.: i just missed the product number, sorry. By the way for cleaning, you need to take it apart.

@kirrr: Thank you very much for the kind responses.

So, I am assuming there is no heating problem with this series of Laptop.
All I need, is to take it to a vendor and get it clean and dusted and also check the thermal paste as suggested by Storm jumper.

(This Thermal paste is on Processor or what ??)

A small amout of thermal paste is needed between the processor and heatsink to make it cool better.

Whoever does the service has to take apart the heatsink assembly too and clean the dust from the inside. That is the single most important thing to do, as it is the source of the heat issue.

    Thanks KLF.

I'll update you guys. A Local Vendor told me that this HP series has Heat up problem and can only be removed if you remove VGA card or something, he was talking about. (I can't remember exactly)

But I guess, I'll stick to what you guys advice and Just let them do cleaning/dusting/thermal pasting..
