In the next week or so i hope to purchase a customised DV6500. However having read many reviews and comments about this laptop fan noise and heat is a common topic.
If anyone has a DV6500t with similar specs as i hope to purchase:

    T7300 processor
    2GB ram
    160GB hard drive
    8400gs graphics card

could you please give me some detailed information on the fan noise and heat when under both light use and under heavy use. The laptop will be mainly used for CAD programs and light gaming. I am just concerned about this issue and hope someone can give me good and honest information from their experiences.
    Hope you can help, gaz.

HP DV notebooks are always hot!
Hp put both the CPU and the HDD on the left side.
The fan is not that loud, but the air gets sometimes really hot.

So nothing to worry about then? Is this issue just down to users being picky do you think?

I am not sure. It also depends on the BIOS version. The older BIOS (F.17 I believe) runs the fan more, but the laptop is cooler. With my DV6000T, I can see the change when I updated the bios. However, when its elevated slightly (as with the 12-Cell battery), the heat and fan usage drops a lot.

I am not sure if this is just an HP problem or something with the C2Ds and BIOS options. My friend just got a new Mac, and his heating problem is so bad that he feels heat through his wooden desk when the laptop sits on it.

The fasn isn't loud at all. What you should fear is the CPU whine.
