hi, i got this laptop in august, and i regret getting an i3 350 processor, i am working with things needing an i5 processor, so i was curious if my motherboard and everything could handle it if i switched my i3 350 processor with an i5 450 processor, if you guys want any details about my laptop, please ask, because i really want to switch my processor, thank you very much

supposedly you cannot upgrade an i5 to an i7, because some components are missing, I am not sure about i3 to i5

a friend suggested installing this processor, Intel® Core? i3-530 Processor (4M Cache, 2.93 GHz) with SPEC Code(s) SLBLR, SLBX7
any thoughts if that would be compatible with my laptop? -
From looking at the service guide ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02437425.pdf), it looks like the Core i3 and Core i5 notebook CPUs are supported on one motherboard. There are two different motherboard SKUs for dual-core CPUs, but they are only differentiated by the ATI discrete graphics card (and ignoring WiMAX).
Tinderbox is correct though; Core i7 quad-cores have their own motherboards and are not compatible with those supporting i3 and i5.
