    Hey guys..

i recently bought an HP pavilion, dv6000 series.. since i had it i noticed two things:

    1) The CPU is always being used at least 50% and more, when i checked the task manager i found a system process called losec.exe which is slowing the PC down + the desktop window manager (dwm.exe). (i dont wanna screw with system processes  )

    2) From the time i switch the laptop on until i switch it off.. the fan is constantly working non-stop. Am sure this is not normal because the manual says (It is normal for the internal fan to cycle on and off during routine operation). It is also heating up where the fan is located.

Can you please tell me how to reduce to CPU usage and how to make the fan stop or at least for properly !

    Thanks..

Try disabling Aero to make dwm.exe calm down a bit. I'm not sure what losec.exe is.

The fan is probably constantly on because your CPU is under constant load. The first thing you should do is fix your CPU load problem, as this should drop the temps, and therefor drop the fan. You could also throttle down your CPU by setting your power mode to "Power Saver". This will underclock and undervolt your processor, making it a lot cooler.

Thanks for the quick response.. Actually i did change the power mode to power saver.. no change and i tried to find out what the losec.exe was but i didnt find anything.. its in the windows folder in the C drive so it must be important.

You can try terminating it in task manager. Worst case scenario is it will cause Windows to restart.

I just scanned my DV6000 running Vista Home Premium for losec.exe and it was not found. A Google search turns up a few hits, all in German it appears.

Have you run a Spyware/Virus scan lately?

I checked the German sites, and they were worried that losec.exe was an undatabased (new word :)) virus.

Still scanning..so its probably a virus thats using up the CPU which is heating it and making the fan work non-stop.. makes sense.. i just hope its not something else..

Down load an application that monitors your temps. I just was directed to return my dv9500t which ran hot out of the box. The HDD was 56c at idle. Try Speed fan or Everest

ok.. i terminated the losec.exe process from the task manager. the Fan DID stop for the first time.. it stops for 1 minute then keeps on working for 10 minutes.. has been doing this the past hour. Any program out there which can detect it and delete it ?

Have you ran an AV scan? If so, try running Spybot S&D and see if it can fix the problem.

Call tech support. If they can not help you, return your machine while you can. They are cranking on the production line, mistakes happen. I did and will be re ordering, HP still seems to be offering the most for your $. Many expensive machines are still offering 4200 rpm. Graphics card are nice but the everyday user is going to notice HDD speed (or lack of it faster then a less then stellar graphics card)
