I was on Bestbuy when I spotted this beauty and I noticed it has an ATI graphic driver. I tried searching for it on the HP but no luck. Where is this thing and is BB correct?

But on BB it says ATI.

Plus on the HP site the notebook is no where to be found.

Does that mean it's sold out?

Edit:: No prescott, I'm looking for the HP Dragon Notebook.

Okay, so I found out it was sold out. The only thing that worries me is how old is the ATI Mobility RADEON HD 2600 XT?

Yes, the HDX 9000 had the option of a ATI radeon Mobility. IT's about as powerful as a Nvidia 8600M GPU.

HP debuted the HDX 9000 with the ATI. IN Jan 2008, HP offered a 8800M GTS GPU in the HDX 9000.

The HDX 9000 has since been discontinued but you can find some on eBay configured with the Nvidia 8800M GTS. You shouldn't pay more than $2300 for one.

The HDX 9000 was the most powerful and largest Pavillion HP ever made.

It's a decent driver but not many who own HDX 9000 have had sucess updating it.

The Nvidia 8800M GTS is almost twice as fast, better thermal profile, can be overclocked and has superior driver support.

HDX 9200-94000 have the Nvidia GPU. Newegg used to sell them, (HDX 9494nr) for ~$1500 with T8100 CPU, 320GB HD, WSXGA+ 20.1" and 8800M GTS. So if you are interested I'd look into getting one of those as oppossed to the HDX 9010NR that Best Buy was peddling. The CPU in that one is a Merom and not Penryn liek in the HDX 9200-9400. Plus you wouldn't be able to later upgrade the GPU to the Nvidia one since the mobo in that unit would also need to be upgraded. HDX9010's came out in May 2007. HDX 9200-9400 models came out in Jan -'08 through Sept '08.

This late in the game after having been discontinued, likely the only place to find one is on ebay.

Search HP HDX on ebay. Look for models with CPU T8100, T8300, T9300, T9600 and X9000. These are all Penryns and were only offered on the newer models. Most with have the Nvidia 8800M GTS. Some will have Blu-ray, some with have the WUXGA LCD panel. But the WSXGA+ panel is of superior quality and is made by LG unlike the WUXGA which is made by Chi Mei. And if you're going to be doing gaming, the WSXGA+ resolution is a proper pairing for the 8800M GTS.

    Good luck and happy holidays.
