This is an HP Pavilion HDX "Entertainment Series" laptop from Hp, been working fine but now having a couple of problems. On startup when it goes to desktop, a Microsoft Windows window pops up with this message:

Windows Host process [Rundll32] has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I click on the 'close program' to close that window. When I am using any software, somewhere along the line the software will stop working.

I did disc cleanup, tried to run sfc /scannow but it would not start scanning.

I then ran a chkdsk but one of the problems I was having is every time I attempt to shut down the pc it would begin the shutting down process but I would see:

Configuring updates: Stage 1 of 3-0% complete.
Do not turn off your computer

and this would not stop updating so i would have to manually shut down, help?
