    Hey,

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000t and Ive been having several problems with my headphone jack.

    1. When I plug in external speakers, I have to wiggle the plug around and twist on the wire in order to get a connection. And it will generally output sound throught only one channel, either the right or the left. I understand that this may be a problem with the plug from the speakers, so would i be able to replace the plug?

    2. Also, the headphone jack wont fit certain plugs. I tried to plug a pair of headphones in and they would go in 9/10ths of the way and then stop. No output at all.

Im really pissed by the whole thing because the internal speakers are crap. Any help would be appreciated.

It may be that the wire you are using is messed up. Try using a different line in/out audio cable or try using different headphones. That way, you will know wether there is problem with the port, or if it just the cable that is faulty.

If you have the volume control icon in your task bar, double click it. If not, go to start - control panel - Sounds And Audio Devices - Volume tab - Then Click Speaker Volume. Make Sure that the volume for the left and right speaker are equal. It may be useful to click "Restore Defualts" and see if that solves the problem.

As with headphone plugs, you're laptop only supports 3.5mm audio jacks, so any other size would not be correct. If in onlygoes 9/10ths of the way in, it is likely that particular headphone jack is piece of unreliable junk.
