Recently bought a Pavilion M6-1045dx with Core i5, 8GB RAM and games does not run so well. Originally planed to purchase the cheaper M6-1035dx with AMD for friend of my recommendation, but a sales attendant assure me Intel is much faster for little extra $. After firing up the laptop and seeing some independent reviews, confused if sales guy led astray me.
Was the AMD Pavilion M6 faster in general than Intel?

M6 amd = for games. slow for cpu stuff.
M6 intel = for cpu intensive stuff. slower for games. performs between radeon 6520g and 6620g
you can't have both fast cpu and igp. Pick one or the other. -
The AMD one is better for gaming, yeah.
-
I did not take attention what kind of Radeon has this, in the sudden he let me believe much faster processor does everything better. Shall I try exchange to AMD or that is gonna be slow at loading programs?
-
if you want to game then yes return it for an amd system, tehy will run fine
-
When will HP add a better screen option to this laptop. Although I guess if you could get the 1080p screen it would basically be a dv6t at that point....

Your Intel does not have Radeon but Intel HD4000 IGP with 2 CPU cores, which doesn't really meant playing games. The AMD A10-4600M has 4 CPU cores and Radeon 7660G, ideal for playing games in it's highest screen resolution. If you encoding movies, 4 AMD CPU cores are again faster than 2 Intel cores. Other areas cannot possible make difference between processor speeds, so whatever how much faster Intel processor is.
With the Pavilion M6 AMD you could save $100, which would be enough for buying a 128GB SSD. Solid State Disks are the responsible for loading programs quickly and making responsible system . -
Well, more cores help but more core doesn't automatically make the cpu faster than a less core one. But anyways, if you really need cpu power, better off get a i7.
So yea, for a everyday laptop with some gaming get the AMD. (no dgpu accounted) -
and 4 AMD cores are slower than 2 intel i5 cores, especially with Trinity, and especially with movie encoding. -
Lay off on the AMD hype. Trinity is better for the OP, no need to go beyond that. -
What do you use Chinebench for? just roll the dice, syntetic tests engine is designed to cheat.
Encoding movie is a real CPU situation and x264 encoding goes faster with more CPU cores and appreciate even more cores. Linking unpopular encoding programs, which not even x264 based means not much for real users. -
x264? Here you go.
Sometimes you just have to accept reality. -
See the 1 above links from R3d, I see only a millimeter difference between i5 and Trinity in movie encoding. -
Note that the benchmark was with last gen SB dual cores, not with current gen IVB duals, so expect another 10-15% advantage on top of that.
-
HD4000 is around a8 level, the llano probably not using 1600 RAM, but the difference will not be much. It is in the same review Red quoted.
The fact is trinity failed to meet its hype and expectation. It is a good all around budget cpu but not a mind -blowing llano. -
Dudes, Lord bless you for helps! I don't think that little difference matters me anything, neither movie encoding. I gonna give a try to exchange for your suggestion and see if suits better.
-
yah go for the dv6z-7000 with A10 and 1080p screen
-
I simply returned the 1045dx and purchased the M6-1035dx for only $630. Surprised this AMD A10 Quad-core processor is unbelievably fast, I am able to use Adobe Photoshop, listen to music, download from UTorrent, surf the web all at the same time. Everything is smooth, and I can play games in High quality. Really satisfied with this M6!

hey hutch i just got this laptop as well but the i5 one with dedicated graphics and wanted to know does ur laptop get hot on the left side where your palm is, for some reason mine gets really hot even when just browsing the web and it can get really annoying just wanted to know if u have the same issue

I'm a gamer and I haven't purchased a computer with an AMD processor for several years. Intel has been stomping them for the last few years.
Jes' my opinion! -

. Thanks for the rep!
-
If you're trying to save money AMD has some great processors. If you want top power and performance, go with Intel. -

Hey all, I'm new tot he forums. I came across these forums by typing in reviews for the exact topic this thread is about....
I'm a college student, i dont do A WHOLE lot of gaming... only occasionally. so i was curious as a mass which laptop do you recommend. between th 1035 and the 1045. I originally saw the 45 first and fell in love with it while messing around with it at best buy. after further research i read a mixed opinions as to if the 35 or 45 was better. I dont know too much about laptops except for the obvious, the 45 has larger hard drive and memory, and i GENERALLY go by the higher priced laptop is better... so this time i wanted to do true research and talk to a few people that know what they are talking about. again I'm a college student that mostly will use this laptop to browse the internet, type some papers or powerpoints, check email, listen to music or a few movies.. MAYBE, and occassionaly ill play a game but not that often. so please give me an honset opinion so i know the better buy. -
Get the cheapest one.. Which is likely the 35. You won't notice the difference in RAM or processor or if all you do is use the internet, do office stuff and watch movies.
