I'm thinking about buying a new notebook and like the Pavilion dv2700t and dv6700t. They both are available in a Special Edition each with a unique design (instead of the glossy-black Imprint finish). Other than the appearance, it doesn't appear that there are any features that can't be had for less money on the standard dv2700t/dv6700t. The Special Edition 6700t is $161 more than the regular version and the 2700t SE is $206 more when identically equipped.

    Am I missing something?

Personally, I think the Special Editions look nicer. Black looks alright but coming into a room with a sleek, shiny silver notebook in front of you.. 'dead sexy'.

Personally I love the look of Brown one and New Red one, but I wouldn't pay extra for just cosmetic difference.

i would pay for a cosmetic look, if the dv9000 series carried it. but i would not pay $161 for it. maybe $100

Aside from the cosmetic differences and a notebook sleeve, the SE models are mechanically identical........

I admit to liking the Verve model, but would prefer it with a larger screen.....

I wish HP would offer the various finishes as options across the model range. I love the Verve design on the dv2700t SE but would love it even more on a dv6700t. Dell makes an extra $25 on virtually every new Inspiron for their less-than-attractive color options. I'd gladly pay $50 on an HP for a choice of finish.

And what the heck is up with the screen choices on the dv6700t? Most competitors offer at least an upgrade option to 1440x900 and a few even up to 1680x1050. But the dv6700t AND the dv2700t have only the standard 1280x800.

HP- build me a dv6700t with the Verve finish and a 1440x900 display! Please!

the only things you get from the SE models are the case finishes and the accessories. mouse and headphones for the 6700, slip case for the 2700, and messenger bag for the 2800.

everything else is just hardware you can upgrade on the standard models.

yeah, if it were only 50 US upgrade , I would get it .

I personally fond of the new artist edition although some people laugh at me when I show it to them.

But as a Japanese/Chines origin , I think it is cool art, nice job HP.

But it's only available with T5550 in Thailand , that 's too slow compared to the similarly priced Verve version with T7500 or 8300.

If I can customize it like in us , I would order the AE with the T7500 and NVDIA 8600GT.

If HP gives us the 8600GT , I do not even think about ASUS considering the build quality of most of cheap ASUS.
Why doesn't HP offer the nVidia 8600GT or ATI HD2600 for these 14/15.4 pavillionlaptops?

I think its because the QC on the HI res displays vary. Some are good others are grainy with bad viewing angles etc... I think HP likes to have consistency in their panels and they do.. they generally all look very nice except they are the lower resolution. Dell on the other hand, has big time problems with their hi res panels and people are returning them all the time. I think on HP's business line they do offer hi res but those customers are probably not as picky about grain etc.. On the consumer line, people are real picky about their Hi res screens and HP probably does not want that headache.

I had a SEC wxga+ on a 1420 dell and now I have a wxga on a HP dv6500t. The wxga on the HP is so much better in viewing angles and brightness thats its not even funny. The SEC on the dell was severely grainy as well. I think if HP could secure good quality Hi res displays they would use them on their consumer line but thats not possible at this time.
