So my pavilion ZT3000 is a little over 4 years old now, and it's been chugging along strong with very few problems, but starting about a month ago, the screen started going black or snowy at random times. Now, it only works when I have the screen less than 90 degrees open, or am physically pulling the screen forward with my hands. Otherwise, it's just a black screen. It's getting worse by the week. Anyone ever have an issue like this? Any idea on the cost of fixing something like this?

I'm in the market for a new laptop anyway, but I'd love to still have this one functional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The LCD cable is probably loose. You can probably fix it yourself, if you are comfortable removing the laptop keyboard and peeking under to find all the wiring.

I'd be up for giving it a shot...the warranty expired ages ago, so no worries there. I've never really opened up a laptop before, though, so I'm not sure where to even begin.

I don't have a solution, but I had the exact same problem with my zt3000 a few months ago. It was still under warranty, so HP fixed it. I suspect it had something to do with the external video port. Now I'm having similar problems again.
