I recently recieved a HP Pavilion zv6000 from a friend, which was not working correctly (randomly shutting down). After a while, it began to fail to boot (freezing at windows screen, beeping at post, etc). After trying to troubleshoot a little bit, I bought a new R4000 motherboard. After following the zv6000 manual on dismantling the notebook, I traced my steps in putting it back together. Now after everything has been replaced, it seems to be in a worse state than it was previously.
My problem:
1. I press the power button.
2. The power light comes on for ~1 second.
3. Notebook does nothing (no boot, nothing)
Other symptoms:
1. The lightning bolt lights up from anywhere between ~1 second -> ~30 seconds
2. I checked the AC adapter, and a voltage meter I used was reading a correct amount of voltage and amperage traveling through the adapter to the connector.
3. I also removed the CMOS battery for ~1 minute before placing it back in.
Any help is appreciated, my email address is psychx at gmail . I can also be reached on AOL's instant messenger at nyxpsychoxny . Or I will also be checking back at this post.
Thank you in advance

There are simply too many things that can go wrong when you replace the whole motherboard.
Did you try changing the RAM? The original problem seems very typical for bad RAM.
When you changed the mobo, are you sure the CPU fit firmly into the socket? Does the screen show anything, I mean are you sure it is connected properly? -
Unless tyou have changed a laptop motherboard before, I do not suggest you do it. -

It almost sounds like the MB is shorting out, but that's just a WAG. You've been there once, so jumping back in and doing it all over again shouldn't be a problem.
Try testing the MB before you reassemble it just to be sure you haven't done any major damage, then just follow the manual again. It may take a few attempts, but at this point you've got nothing to lose.
Also, it would be a good idea to follow the previous posters advice and replace the RAM, just in case. -
I have taken everything off of the motherboard so far (both RAM modules, hard drive, optical drive, bluetooth, network card, battery, etc).. I have been troubleshooting with all parts. Is there anything I could be missing? Is there a way that even though the adapter is reading correct voltage, it is shorting out? Also, could the problem lie within the processor?
I have repaired/built many desktops/notebooks, everything was done according to the manual and my personal experience. The processor was taken out and reseated correctly, with a new/clean layer of thermal paste. Every screw was placed back in according to the manual. I just do not understand where the problem is coming from. I will continue working on it tonight, I still havent tested the motherboard for voltage. Also, the screen is connected correctly, but has nothing to do with it.. The whole thing just simply will not boot at all, not even POST. -

The fact that the power light comes on for ~1 then goes out leads me to think that there may be a short or a problem with the PS, but again that's just a guess. I haven't built a pc for a few years, but if I remember correctly, even with a dead processor the board will still retain power, it just won't boot. Same with the RAM.
Testing the MB for voltage is your best bet, since you already know that the adapter is OK . It's not out of the realm of possibility that you received a bad MB.
Another WAG. Have you checked the battery?
