I'm ready to buy this laptop, have it in my cart at HP, but I'm trying to determne which model will be shipped: the earlier charcoal lid version, often described as a fingerprint magnet, or the newer soft touch ash black version. I want the latter.
I contacted HP but the rep I was chatting with was unaware that a soft touch version was even available, and asked me for a link so she could read up on it.
Does anyone know how to determine or specify which model I'll receive if I order it?

I've been looking at the dm1 series too, and from what I've read, the soft touch version is not available at this point, and no one seems to know when it'll be available. So if you order now, count on getting the charcoal version.

Is that right? I was under the impression the soft touch model was recently released. This article, for example, said it would be released this fall: HP Pavilion dm1-4010us | Ubergizmo.
Too bad if it isn't yet available. :( Looks good in the pics.

Just got off the phone with a supervisor in HP sales. He confirmed that the soft touch models do exist and were available effective October 30, 2011. However, they can only be purchased through select retailers and not direct from HP. He couldn't specify which retailers, though.
