I'm currently looking into buying a new ultraportable laptop or netbook and this notebook looks like it fits my needs perfectly. My old 15.4" laptop is starting to show it's age and is becoming a pain to lug around campus all day. Plus the battery life is starting to decrease to under 1:30 hours..

Is there any word when this notebook will be available? I read that it's going to be sometime this month. How much will it be with the external DVD or Blu-ray drive? And are there going to be any other battery options other than the standard 4-cell? I'm probably only willing to purchase this notebook if it gets 4-5+ hours of battery life.. so how long do you think it will last?

I know answers to my questions are scarce and probably not even available.. but thanks for any responses anyways.

HP's press release letter stated that it is going to be available sometimes this month. I'm keeping an eye on it as well, and hopefully this one makes up for the last two disappointing HPs that I had.

on a 4-cell battery you won't get more than 3.5 hours. the HP dv2 is now available in Toronto, Canada. i spent a few moments using the notebook last evening http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4693087&postcount=4

LOL thanks, I just noticed that.

The thing I'm worried about is that it'll be loud and run hot. It seems like HP is paying too much attention to aesthetics and disregarding heat issues and fan noise levels on their recent notebooks.

the palm rests of the dv2 are warmer than i expected. the current dv2 has the single-core Athlon Neo. in the second half of this year, AMD is releasing a dual-core Athlon Neo with similar thermal characteristics. i suspect HP will release a variant dv2 or dv3 with the AMD Congo platform in the August / September time frame

Nice, I guess USA will be getting it very soon then. 3.5 hours sounds reasonable, if I do get this notebook I'll probably try and bump it up to the 6 cell battery. It does seem a bit pricey when you start upgrading it, though... I might be better off buying a ~$450 netbook instead.

I'll create a topic in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" section later and get some feedback.

I've been waiting for this to come out, and it will be replacing my N10J, or I'll just keep both, anyhow futureshop has them in stock here (Canada) and I'll be picking one up tonight, although i'm sure someone will beat me to it on a full review but we'll see.

that figure is from AMD marketing so i wouldn't be too keen to use it as a main deciding factor of whether to purchase the dv2. i suspect real-world usage would be around three (3) hours.

Alright so i just picked this up, in love with it so far, i'll be running some benchmarks on it shortly (with the stock config) i'll probably do a reinstall of the OS on one of the many laptop HDD's I have laying around.

One little interesting bit, it has 2 ram slots AND it comes with a 4GB DDR2 SO-Dimm

Bought it at futureshop, i'm located in Canada, price was $899 I still can't get over the fact it came with a 4Gb so-dimm, seeing as the are still expensive. Just running through the 3dmark series right now, should have a review up later tonight or for tomorrow morning, so far I love it, doesn't get very warm and all, and is very quiet.

Well, considering I checked Google Product Search yesterday and found only 4 places with listing (3 said "Coming Soon") and today there are 6... I expect the release is coming pretty soon. Since most of these places are advertising the US model, I'll bet the release is this week.
