As stated in the title, I have a dv2845se. It came with Vista Home Premium x64, no recovery discs; however it HAD a recovery partition.
Recently, I wiped the drive and installed Vista Ultimate x64. (I wiped rather than updating the Key to get rid of the crap HP puts on it's laptops) I also got rid of the recovery partition (mainly because I've never needed it).
Before updating, I went to HP's support site and downloaded all of the available drivers for my specific model, for Vista x64.
After reinstalling everything, I noticed 3 devices in the Device Manager that were still unknown: Coprocessor, Ethernet Controller, and SM Bus Controller.
Upon re-entering the HP Support & Drivers site, I saw that there were no drivers that I'd failed to download, and that they simply weren't there. So, I contacted HP via the online chat, and was directed to two downloads from a different model (dv2500): sp38946 for Chipset Drivers (Coprocessor and SM Bus Controller), and sp37854 (Marvell Ethernet).
Neither work on my model. The chipset drivers say my notebook doesn't meet the minimum requirements (which I take to mean that they're wrong for my chipset) and the NIC drivers begin to install, then fail and the setup program hangs until I exit it (via Cancel).
I've tried uninstalling the "hardware" (via Uninstall in the Device Manager) and get the same thing. The two setups simply will not install.
So, I'm wondering if anyone has an idea as to what the correct drivers are. Like I said, It's a dv2845se. The BIOS reads it as a dv2700, Bios version F.24 and from what I can see on HP's downloads, they're (2700's) the same drivers that are with the 2500 series, and my specific dv2845se (when I type that in specifically).
Everything else works swimmingly. Just those couple of things.

As a general update:
After spending about an hour with their online support via their online chat, the tech concluded that the only way I was going to get the drivers to install was to do it off of their Recovery Disc; which they're sending me free in the mail.
That seems a bit odd to me, that the only way to install (what should be) a common driver is to do it off of their "special" recovery CD. -
Final Update:
Today, I did some searching for the chipset drivers for my model.
As it turns out, it runs a 630M chipset, which is the 630a on nVidia's website. The v15.01 drivers were able to install the SM Bus Controller, and the Coprocessor; but not the Ethernet controller. With it being the only thing not working, I continued to search for a driver that would work.
Earlier, I found it. The v14.10 drivers (from nVidia) have a working Ethernet Driver; however the later versions do not (it seems).
So now everything works! Hurray! I'm just writing this in case anyone else has a similar problem.
Remember, this was a Vista x64 thing with a HP dv2845se (dv2700).
v14.10 Driver is HERE -
First off, I would like to thank ZimLanfire for taking the time to post his problem and more so his solution to his problem. Thanks!
I have a HP Pavillion DV2500 from Japan that was brought back to Canada. I wanted to get rid of the Japanese Vista as I can't read Japanese!
I prefer XP, So I started by installing XP but had too much trouble finding drivers for xp...
So I got Vista Ultimate 64bit edition and installed that. I went to HP's website and used the auto-detection feature to find my model #. It said I have a DV2700 even though the sticker on the bottom of my laptop say's DV 2500... Go figure... So I installed all the drivers from HP's website. Some of the drivers told me that I do not meet the minimum requirements, and did not install... The ethernet driver got 3/4 way through the install and just hung there untill I canceled it. I restarted the computer and after that checked the device manager to find that 3 devices still not not have the proper drivers installed.... I had no idea what to do!
I was lucky to find this forumn topic within 2 minutes of searching google!
Even though ZimLanfire has a differant model # then me, the symtoms he was facing was similar! I installed the v14.10 Driver package from nvidia website that he suggested, restarted my computer, and voila! Everything works!
I was so happy that I took the time to register to this website just so that I can thank ZimLanfire! -
Coprocessor driver unknown for DV2845se with OS Windows 7 64bits RC1. Problem fixed using v14.10 drivers (from nVidia).
I installed Windows 7 64bits RC1 (7100) on my dv2845se. Most of the drivers were installed automatically by windows update. The others I installed using the drivers provided by HP website for Vista 64 bits.
However Coprocessor driver was unknown. I only could solve it following the tip given by ZimLanfire: using the v14.10 drivers (from nVidia).
Now all my devices are correctly installed.
Thank you all.

Thanks for the tip, I've wasted the last few hours struggling with a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit on a dv2845se and this stupid coprocessor issue. The default driver that Win7 finds using Windows Update does not solve this, nor does the Vista 64-bit version of the graphics driver on HP's website.
EDIT: The 14.1 version fixed the coprocessor issue, but since I uninstalled any and every previous nVidia driver its using standard VGA. I'm using Windows Update to fix this and we'll see how it goes. -
DON'T use Windows Update to install nVidia drivers, you'll run into nothing but trouble. I recommend drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com, specifically Dox's modded version (the latest one is 185.90 if i remember right, but it runs faster than all of the newer ones).
