Hey,
![]()
My laptop HP pavilion dv3 as shown as the pic above has been overheating. I downloaded Speedfan to check temperatures of laptop when a program is opened.
Without any programs running the temperature of the laptop (GPU) is at around 55C.
With Chrome opened, the temperature is at around 70C
Watching a full screen video makes the temprature rise to around 85C
I tried a 2008 game - called Anno 1404, the temprature has now risen to 100C.
Above 80C, my computer lags/freezes alot. I simply cannot put my laptop on my lap and so I want to find out if there are any repairs or suggestions for cooling the laptop. I want to watch a youtube video fulllscreen without having to be concerned on the temperature.
My fan is working properly (I can see it move). After 75C, the laptop makes alot of noise.
Your help would be very much appreciated in solving this overheating problem!
Thanks

Use compressed air and blow out the dust in your fan.
If that doesn't work, you can try repasting the laptop. -
I don't think any amount of compressed air will help that. Most probably that will just break the bearings of the fan and makes it buzz/resonate. The other option is that dustballs inside the cooler will be pushed back into the fan blades and jam it.
Rather take computer apart, clean the dustballs manually and repaste while it's open anyways.
