For a computer to be used for basic computing needs, email, surfing the web, etc. which computer by HP is better? The Pavilion dv4t or the Pavilion dv5t? I see where NBR has the dv5t rated high but the dv4t is rated low. I noticed a banner on this site earlier indicating the dv4t is on sale at HP. I've read the reviews on the dv5t which have been very good but I haven't done any research on the dv4t.

The dv4t is more portable than the dv5t, but at the cost of performance. Ratings should be similar since it uses the same architecture as the dv5t, just on a smaller scale.

The dv4t is more portable so if you're moving it around, it'd be a good idea to get the dv4 :D

They are basically the same laptops, except for the dv4 being a smaller version and costing a bit more.

I'd like something I could use in the bed if needed. Last year I got the flu but with my Dell Inspiron 1300 I could still surf and send emails while in bed with the flu but I wouldn't want anything heavier than my old 1300 Inspiron Dell. Thanks for the comments.

I like smaller laptops for portability. It is a matter of personal preference. My brother got the dv5t and I got the dv4t. I would have liked it to be smaller than this, but of course, the price goes up exponentially as you get smaller. 15.4" is the sweat spot cheap for computers. I like 14.1" and less computers.

Actually the money wasn't a issue for me when I chose between the DV5T and DV4T. It was teh graphics card... the dv4t had a much lower and inferior video card (9200m) compare to the 9600m (on the dv5t)

The dv4t has been priced higher than the dv5t from their introduction...until very recently. At the moment, a dv4t configured with 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drive and Wireless-N costs $75 less than a dv5t with the same specs (via HP.com).

Unless the nVIDIA 9600M GT graphics card is a MUST (and/or the WSXGA+ resolution display), the dv4t is the way to go for most users. The dv4t also offers an option that the dv5t doesn't- an LED-backlit display.

A dv4 with an integrated graphics card and LED screen will cater to your needs better.

    I don't know about the dv5t, but I know the dv4t...

    I hate to say I don't recommend the dv4t.
    HP's BIOS support is terrible....
