I noticed when signing in on your homepage you have listed the HP Pavilion dv5t as the most popular laptop. I checked HP's website, they also have a Pavilion dv5z, a Pavilion dv4t and a Pavilion dv4z. Which of these 4 would be a good choice for a laptop to be used for basic computing?

For web surfing and email? I'm not a gamer nor am I into digital photography. The Pavilion dv5t seems like a nice model but it might have more bells and whistles than I need. Also where would I post a question about which laptop brands generate the most heat for someone using a computer for basic work?

I'm looking at Toshiba, HP, Dell, and Sony. If I used a particular brand in my lap for a considerable amount of time which brand would get hot the quickest if all I'm doing is web surfing or email? No gaming would be done.

Do any of the new laptops exhaust their heat out the sides or are they still exhausting their heat out the bottom? I had a Dell Inspiron 1300 which at times got hot and couldn't use it too long in my lap. Feedback appreciated.

Perhaps you could make a thread in the What Notebook Should I Buy? forum and make a special note about your concerns.

Also, what do you care, regarding battery life and screen size?

I had a Dell Inspiron 1300 which came with a 4 cell battery and a 14.1" screen. It was a good laptop for basic computing, no frills or thrills but unfortunately for me I dropped it here in the house in January 2008 and crashed the monitor for good. Dell wanted almost $400.00 to fix it and give me a 90 day warranty, I told them no.

I wouldn't want a monitor screen larger than 15.4", I've looked at several of Dell's current models with 14.1" screens but they cost quite a bit more than a laptop having a 15.4" screen. I used the battery a few times on my 1300 and at the best I was able to use the computer for about 2 hours then I had to do a recharge. Thanks for the post.

if it's a z the laptop is AMD based

if it's a t the laptop is Intel based

working backwards, the dv5-1135 sports an Intel processor, so it's a dv5t

That would fit the bill but I cannot find any reviews on it. It's not even listed on HP's site. Is it a discontinued model? What color is that? Bronze? I wonder if it comes in black? The warranty from HP is better? Can the extended warranty be purchased later from HP? I checked this site first for a review, none available, then went to CNET, none available. I'll keep checking for user reviews.

That notebook is apart of the DV4T series. It has a few extra numbers at the end, because it is a pre-configured notebook. Pre-configured notebooks are quicker to ship and cost a little less money.

Pre-configured notebooks may or may not appear on the HP website due to the exclusiveness. Best Buy has been known to have Best Buy exclusive products from bigger manufacturers. It is not a discontinued model.

The color on that notebook is Bronze. That particular notebook does not come in black, as the model number contains Bronze as a specification.

The warranty from HP is far superior than that of Best Buy. When you get a warranty from Best Buy you're adding a middle man. You would have to take the laptop to Best Buy each time and then they would ship it to HP themselves. You wouldn't be entitled to everything the HP warranty includes.

I was in your same boat at one point in time about 5 years ago. I went to Circuit City and had a wide selection to choose from. Everyone suggested HP because they have been around an extremely long time and believe in customer satisfaction. I honestly didn't believe it, but I went as advised and purchased an HP. I couldn't have been any happier.

The HP notebooks are extremely solid and durable. They remind me of a piece of art (minus my finger prints). They perform very well and are user friendly right out of the box.

With HP, you can always add on an extended warranty within the current warranty. For instance, if you purchase this notebook without a warranty you still have the option to do so within that year. HP really goes far for its customers. If a part should fail or become defective on your notebook, they RUSH out a replacement part via Fedex OVERNIGHT delivery for free. I had my DVD drive fail once and within two days I had a new one.

I hope that helps ya out Stevoreno!

Feel free to read the review of my DV7t, which is the bigger brother of the DV4T.
