I just received a very nice HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook for Christmas.
I was kind of psyched 'cause it seemed to promise pretty nice sound with it's SRS Premium Sound, Altec Lansing Speakers and IDT High Definition Audio Codec - but I've noticed that the volume is just way too low.
I've tried everything I could think off - the volume mixer is up (even though I can find no "wav" option on Vista),the SRS button is ticked in the IDT control panel, the driver is up to date. No matter how much I try to tweak it, the sound just sounds "meh".
Is there anything I can do or is it just the way this model is?

Just want to check, you got a DV6, or a DV5? AFAIK, the DV6 hasn't been released to the public yet (only pre-orders).

It says on the sticker below the keyboard that it is a
HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Entertainment Notebook PC.
I'm pretty sure my girlfriend got it at Office Max -

Really? Is this "a thing"?
I don't have a camera right now to take an external shot - but I can give you a pic from the system folder

I think you have the HD16t and sound is a common issue on it per its mega thread..
Someone over there fixed the volume by Uninstalling IDT audio driver and download realtek HD.
Also I hope you didnt uninstall HP Media stuff - someone got treble/bass features back from here:

Oh man...I hope I didn't uninstall any HP Media stuff - I thought I was being very careful when getting rid of trial like software and don't think I would have deleted anything with "HP" in it.
Thanks, I'll look for this thread.

Sure, its the "official HP16t Owners Lounge" = ALOT of pages.. I was following it sometime ago thats why I posted the above 2 recommendations - did you try them? the Realtek HD driver should probably be your best bet
Link to the mega thread -
I looked at the HP link and am sure I didn't uninstall HP Media Smart - so I didn't try that. I didn't try the Realtek HD solution yet because I'm supposed to be working instead of trying to mess with my laptop - but I will!
Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it. -
Hey zeppo, try this:
Download AC3 Filter:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ac3filter/ac3filter_1_51a.exe
then change the settings to look like this:
Reboot your computer and see if it has improved your sound, hope this helps. -
This should be an actual dv6t, not an HDX16t.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's still the same.
I'm having second thoughts about messing with the driver as I am not daring. Is it safe to install a Realtek driver when my current driver is IDT? I'm worried about messing things up.
Here's my device settings:

It has to be a dv6 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...2295&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN his specs match

Also zeppo1 can you post some pictures as there is no where to find picture of this model on the internet.
-
Right now I can't because my girlfriend has the digital camera, but it looks almost identical to the laptop pic under your user name.
*edit - I found some pics from a ebay auction. -
All I can say is that you got really lucky zeppo...You can't even pre-order these direct from HP yet! Hope that the fix for the HDX 16t works for you. If not, we may be able to help you better in a month or so.

I just bought the dv6 1030us, too, and the volume is terrible. Even when I have headphones plugged in, it's still not loud enough.
Wondering if anyone has come up with a solution yet??? -

What I did find though is that it does help to increase the gain in your media player if the file you are playing is too low. I use KMPlayer and adjust it under settings.
It's by all means not a spectacular fix, but it does help a bit. I can't help but think there must be a better tweak to increase the volume overall. -

Maybe it's because your codec is Realtek, while mine is IDT High Def? (I was going to experiment with changing the codec, but lack both the experience and courage)
