Hey guys, this February, I bought a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop from Costco. Ever since about a couple weeks ago, I've had dark areas on my screen, which have gotten progressively larger in area. Will HP cover this under the warranty and replace my screen? Also, another problem that I've had is that the computer fan turns on very loudly and obnoxiously at the slightest taps and nudges onto the physical computer body. And when running anything like videos, the fan will turn on very loudly and the computer will overheat. Can someone tell me why this keeps occurring? Needless to say, I am getting extremely frustrated by the quality of HP computers.

It sounds like the screen backlight is going on the screen, which is definitely not typical of a less than 1 year old laptop. Definitely contact HP for warranty support. Have you opened the laptop up at all or done anything upgrades? Just curious, another issue may be a power connector cable between the screen and motherboard is getting pinched or not connected properly.

No, I have never opened up the computer for any upgrades. Will HP typically replace the whole computer in cases like this?

They will probably attempt to repair it first.

They will most likely ship a new monitor to your local HP service center, the engineer takes the old screen, puts the new one and you're done. Sometimes they'll not even remove the brand new wrap and that's how new it can possibly be.

Btw, the entire screen assembly is replaced.

PS: The screen may contain components like:
    1. Webcam
    2. Your Wi-Fi antennas, connected to cables that "clip to your Wi-Fi card
    3. LCD
    4. The aluminium back

A screen's problem itself isn't anywhere close to being a good reason for a whole laptop replacement.
