    Good evening!

I have a friend that knows zilch about computers (I'm nearly right there with him)...and he wants to buy an LCD monitor but doesn't know which one to buy.

Before choosing a monitor, we decided we needed to know the output resolution of his HDMI connection correct?

I'm not sure about how I'm to go finding this....any help?

He has an HP Pavilioin dv6 notebook...model number FY848AV. It seems to be a CTO...and I'm having a hardtime finding info.

    Thanks!

    Does screensize matter?

I know he can't get a 30" monitor (or don't think he can), but will a laptop support a 27" monitor?

Sorry about all the questions...helping him over AIM is hard.

    No. Screen size is irrelevant.

your HDMI connection will adjust itself to the size of the LCD monitor it connects to. The Monitor actually talks to your computer when it is plugged in using VESA DDC and tells your videocard what resolution it is and what modes and refresh rates it supports.

Your HDMI connection will drive any monitor size from 800 x 600 up to a maximum of 1920x1200. The spec claims that HDMI 1.3a supports up to 2560 x 1600 (a 30" monitor size) @ 60hz, but the fact is that none of the video card manufacturers support it. (I know, because I've got 2 30" monitors at home and have checked it out on a couple of recent video cards)
