Hi just purchased this new laptop directly from HP (Should be delivered today, ordered it on Tuesday) and I just wanted to get some advice as far as what should I do once I get the laptop. Create Recovery discs or anything else that may be important. Thanks in advance.

i'm very interested in this laptop myself.

any chance you could download 3dmark06 and run the benchmark on it?
    and the unigine Heaven benchmark?
    links are below:

    Before clean install.....
Give it a week to test everything out, check they are working order.

If they fail in the factory install, they are most like to fail in a clean install.
Faster to catch problems early on, doing it on factory install would be easier to figure out when to send it back to HP.

I created the Recovery discs first.
You can also backup SwSetup folder and the HP wallpapers (Windows\Web\Wallpaper) if preferred.

I like how HP implemented the Recovery discs creation & Recovery process.
It's very nice and easy. A great UI and clear instructions and options.
Before I did a clean install, I tested the Recovery discs. It easy, error-free,
    and hassle-free. Bravo HP! :)

For Passmark tests, I uploaded my results (GPU not overclocked), just search for N950.
I uploaded the name dv6-3160us but for some reason, they edited it to dv6-3160.
I requested it to be changed back to dv6-3160us but nothing was done.
The results are with the pre-installed drivers. With updated drivers and an overclocked
GPU, the results should be faster.

For 3DMark06, nothing overclocked, I get results in the 7400+ range.

So far with the GPU overclocked (using AMD GPU Clock Tool) at 730/975 I get results in
    the 8800+ range.

Haven't had time to overclock higher and to test with the latest/various drivers yet.

I just picked up this exact model for 699.99 after a 50 dollar rebate. Let me know of any pros/cons from existing owners. I'm excited to get this as it was at a nice price (I will do some light gaming) but more importantly had all the bells and whistles (fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, blutooth) only thing it didnt have was the touch screen as seen on the SE editions (I can live without that.) Looking forward to this, hope some current owners will chime in about battery life, screen, and general system tweaks I can do to get the most out of this puppy!

Battery life was about 2.5 to 3 hours on my dv6 with the standard 55 WHr battery and the same specs as the 3160. With undervolting I topped 3 hours of regular usage (screen at 60-70%, integrated GPU, balanced mode, continuous web surfing) most of the time. On lower settings (30-40% brightness, power saving mode, cores locked at 800MHz) I could squeeze out almost 4.
