I just received this from Amazon and have started testing stuff.
I noticed that in realtemp I idle at about 52 degrees, heavy load or
gaming at 85 degrees, and intel burn test I stopped after one
pass at 90 degrees. If I run prime with heaven benchmark to max
out CPU and GPU I can hit 94 degrees. It is STABLE, but I am used
to my desktop 4.7ghz 2500k with GTX 580, it idles at 40, games
at 60 degrees, maxes at 70 degrees. Is my laptop fine or defective?
I know laptops will run hotter and the cpu will safely start to throttle
down at 90 degrees?, but is this normal for this laptop considering
I really tried to torture test it before my 30 days is up! The fan is
load and blowing out burning hot air.

TJUNCTION on mobile "Sandy Bridge" i5 & i7 processors is 100°C

Does that mean I am fine under 100 degrees celsius in realtemp
for all four cores in the 90's? Does that mean no throttling
    till 100 degrees?

Normally the CPU will not shut off the CPU until 95% of TJUNCTION which would be 95°C. One would not see the same temps under normal use as those seen running Prime and Unigine, 85°C is safe.

if u want to reduce temp. use Hp CoolSense software (part of Hp support assistant), change setting to Coolest which will reduce temp. around 10C (the fan will kick off more often + disable intel turbo boost).

Thanks guys. I want the maximum speed and turbo boost, so I will just leave it alone knowing my temps are ok.

Getting more space between the laptop and the surface it rests on will help it cool more effectively, so would a "laptop cooler."

The 9-cell batteries are great just to give the dv6 more room to breath, it seems worth the extra money to get the 9-cell for the extra run time and the built in prop.

No there's no 12 cell for this laptop, only a 6 and 9 cell. I'm not sure why they didn't stick with 12 cell.
