    Hi,
    I m from India.One of my cousins is visiting USA this May and i m planning to get a HP Pavilion dv6000t from thr with the following configuration.

    * – Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
    * – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    * – 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    * – 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    * – HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    * – FREE Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB DDR2 (2x512MB)!!
    * – 60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    * – LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    * – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    * – No TV Tuner w/remote control
    * – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * – Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
    * – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    When i configured it online, it was costing me $1078.99 . Would like to know whr i can find gud deals so that it would be costing me somewhere around $900-$950.Plz let me know the related websites.
    Moreover, wat are these coupons??How can one use them ??and Who are eligible to use them??
    And one more question i have is -- Can't i opt for not taking the Genuine XP(I will be using Linux and cracked versions of XP)??If so , would be the prize be reduced??

    Regards.

    the cheapest you'll get i with the windows vista basic since HP doesnt like Linux and using a pirated copy of XP as an option is illegal here in the US....

    btw you can check the sticky in the HP/Compaq sectino and sign up for student savings...i think it knocks off about 6%

    You wish to buy the DV6000 series notebook with an Intel based CPU. HP-US customized notebooks are shipped directly to consumers address in the US and you will have to pay with a US issued credit card.

    In your case (assuming he will A. stay in a hotel B. not have a US issued card), you need to look for readily available configurations which can be found at retail shops. You need to follow the retailers websites as they get regular delivery of preconfigured machines.

    They publish a copy of their weekly discount brochures in PDF so any in-shop sale is advertised there as well. They are:

    bestbuy.com - weekly ad link
    compusa.com - advertised specials link
    circuitcity.com - weekly ad link
    officedepot.com - weekly specials link
    microcenter.com - dont advertise brochure but have in-store pickup option.

    In general you need to look for 'instant savings' ads rather then 'rebates' that you can't claim anyway. Thats where you will have a tough time as most are discounted using this system of manufacturer and/or retailer rebates.

    Once you find an interesting deal, put in the zip code of your cousins location (hotel etc) and see where is the nearest shop. Most retailer online shops will allow you to check availability or get delivery in store which is the only option in this case.

    I don't want to discourage you but now is a relatively low-season for sales so not sure you can actually get a good deal but hope the information given can help you.

    Good luck.

    Based on a lot of threads on here, you might also not be able to get HP support for a US machine if you take it to another country. Just keep that in mind.

    thanks booyoo and tweety.....very helpful indeed.

    I m planning to get the laptop shipped to my cousin's colleague in the US and will be collecting it from him.

    And as tweety said, is it true that thr wouldn't be any support for laptops purchased in the US if u get them to other countries??is it the same with dell too?

    any new coupons for HP Pavilion dv6000t ??the 200$ coupon got expired a few days ago :( .......

    I can't really choose between a dell inspiron 6400 and a HP dv6000t.....any dell with an integrated camera??..which one should i go for?

    thanks.
