My HP Pavilion dv6120us (P/N RG360UA#ABA) gets very hot on the left side of the mouse pad, I guess its the hard disk that is heating up. Even the mouse pad feels very warm. I have checked the fan. It runs as expected while doing any CPU intensive work. I even cleaned the vents using compressed air can.

It has Seagate Momentus 5400.2 120GB SATA (ST9120821AS). I install the 'Sea Tools' to check the disk temperature. The temp reaches 55-60 C under normal use.

Anybody else having heating problems with this model?

Will it help to change the hard disk?

I had recently upgraded to Vista Home Premium from XP home premium. Could Vista be the reason for excess heating of the hard disk?

    Thanks,
    Vik

Vista constantly writes to the hard disk.

You should disable indexing in that case.

Right click Computer and go to Manage. Scroll down to Windows Search and disable.

That should prevent some of the thrashing Vista causes. You can monitor the disk writing by using the built-in resource monitor.

I do have some doubts of it being Vista though.

Thanks for your responses. I have already tried cleaning the all the vents with compressed air can. Indexing does not seem to be a problem either. There is not much disk activity when the system idle. I also confirmed this through resource monitor.

I am planning to change the hard disk and install Win XP MC that originally came with the notebook. Wish me good luck!

I will report the outcome on this forum, might be helpful for someone.
