Hey guys,
I have a Pavilion dv6345us that I got back in June 2007 and I like the notebook but one of the main problems is that it keeps messing up the batteries.
The battery it came with ended up dying completely (doesn't hold a charge) within a year or so. Then I bought a 12-cell battery off eBay (generic brand) last summer/fall and now that battery too is almost completely dead.
I don't know if its a problem with the laptop or the battery so I don't know what to do. One thing I do notice is that the computer heats up a lot frequently so maybe that is the reason for the battery wear?
Only thing I have done to the computer is upgrade to 2GB RAM from the 1GB RAM it came with, a month after I bought it.
Thanks in advance!

Batteries diminish in capacity the more you use them, and under the heaviest loads they can certainly die in less than a year.
HP's battery dying? You probably use the battery a lot.
The generic battery dying? Generic batteries are cheap and not necessarily well tested. You wasted your money on that if you ask me. I'm glad you got a good almost year out of it, but never buy generic batteries if you ask me.
The RAM swap wouldn't have done a thing to damage the battery, and as far as the heat goes...well, HPs are known to run hot.
How do you use the battery? Do you use it every day? Do you let it run down completely before charging it up again? Do you configure your computer to a lower power state to get longer battery life, or do you run full blown and dry the battery out quickly? -
I'm hesitant but considering purchasing a genuine HP 12-cell and seeing what happens.
I don't want to waste the money in case my laptop actually drains the battery quickly, but there's only one way to find out.
Thanks for the help. I usually keep it plugged in with the battery, but I thought it would last more than a year on the OEM battery like that.
Is it common for the battery to go down to not being able to hold a charge at all? -
a battery starts dying since the day its made, there are a few things that can me done to care for the battery but a OEM battery will be more or less useless after a year
