I bought an HP Pavilion dv6406nr last year which came installed with Vista Home Premium. I reformatted the computer so that it would run XP instead, and it's worked fine for me until now. I want to restore my computer to its factory settings (with Vista) and no, I don't have Recovery discs (but if you have the same computer and would like to send them to me, I wouldn't argue) and I was wondering if there was someway to use the HP_Recovery on the D:\ drive.
I can't see anything in the D:\ drive but its full, so I'm guessing that the Recovery files are still there.
F11 doesn't work at startup - I just get a mass of beeping when I press it.
I can't mark my D:\ drive as active through computer management - It's grayed out so that it's not an option anymore.
By the way, I was reading the Clean Vista Install sticky and I DO have the Anytime Upgrade CD that came with my computer, but will it still work since I have XP now?

I don't think you can use the HP_Recovery drive anymore within Windows XP due to the MBR being overwritten. However, it may be possible to boot from the HP_Recovery partition by setting it as the active boot partition, hopefully in the BIOS.
As for the Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade disc, you can certainly use the disc and the instructions that are outlined in the clean install guide. However, it is recommended that you have backed up your existing Vista license.
If all else fails, you can always ask HP for a system recovery disc that can re-install Vista to original factory conditions. Note that this will delete everything including Windows XP, so take caution if and when you do a factory recovery.
