Hey guys/gals,
I have a quick question. Does this model support the new Intel 45nm CPUs? I just wondering because I tried emailing HP regarding this and they gave me a link to the latest BIOS update (which I couldn't find on HP's website until now) and it says it fixes an issue where the stepping of the processor always shows as "unknown" when the ESC POST key is pressed.

So can I upgrade to a T9300 after all?

The link you posted is a BIOS update for the dv6500z notebook series. Those contain an AMD processor, not an Intel processor. The current dv6700t series do support the Penryn platform, with the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 as an available option.
The most current BIOS (F.33A) for the dv6500t/dv6700t series (which have an Intel processor) is located at the link below.

Oh snap. Didn't see that "for Notebooks with AMD Processors". Stupid HP tech...
Yeah I saw that latest BIOS you linked. So is the dv6500t going to have support or is it only going to be it's brothern dv6700? -
what chipset is in the 6500? I assume it is either GM965 or PM965 (with or without integrated graphics respectively), in which case I see no reason why it would not support penryn. Any other chipset, and it would not be able to support it. Use Everest to find out what chipset you have.

It's the PM965 chipset.
Cool. This is great news. I'm was kind of iffy about switching to a newer CPU and worried that my laptop wouldn't recognize it.
HP Pavilion dv6500 CTO Penryn support?
