    Hello

I hope someone can help me!

I am looking for a desktop replacement machine which will mainly be used for heavy Web & E-mail, and heavy Office applications. I would also plan to use the machine for music storage & watching DVD's.

I like the look and feel of the HP Pavilions I have seen so far, and there are 2 different Pavilions within my budget:

    1. Hewlett Packard Pavilion DV6552EA
    Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58
Cache: 2x512 KB, Up to 1600 MHz system bus running at AC/DC mode 35 Watt
    Memory: 2GB
    HD Capacity: 160GB
    Display: 15.4"
    Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

    2. HP Pavilion Media Center DV6555EA
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 / 1.5 GHz ( Dual-Core )
    Cache Memory:2 MB - L2 Cache
    RAM: 1 GB (installed) / 2 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM ( 2 x 512 MB )
    Hard Drive: 160 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
    Display: 15.4"
    Graphics: Intel GMA X3100
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

Both machines are the same price (£550) but I am not sure which is the best buy? I realise there are good and bad points with each model, but my budget won't stretch to the best combination of the 2!

And as an aside the following Acer was recomended to me, and for the same price as the 2 HP's above I can get it with a 3 year warranty. I think that either HP would be a better bet - can someone confirm please?

Thanks for your help - I appreciate it. This is my first laptop and a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing :)

The first HP (DV6552EA) gives you more bang for your buck- double the memory and better graphics card. As for longetivity, Acer runs cooler and will last longer. HP tends to run hot. My first laptop was HP. Great machine, just ran warmer than Acer or Fujitsu. But if you like HP, go for the first model (DV6552EA).
